Getting sick during ultrasounds

I really love to see my babies but Im beginning to HATE getting u/s, they are not pleasant for me!! Im dreading going to my appointment this morning!! Im 27wks with twins, Dr schedules me every 4 wks and will be moving them to every 2 wks here on out. My office schedules twin u/s for a double slot meaning Im laying on that table for the full hour!! My back always cramps up, I have horrible reflux and laying flat makes it worse, and once the tech starts pushing and moving them around I get queasy, nauseous, dizzy, cold sweats, and hubby ends up holding the trash can in one hand and water bottle in the other. I always schedule early apts and try to eat a very light breakfast and have not had morning sickness for a while now its only during the u/s. Does anyone else have this problem or any suggestions to make them bearable?? Its been quite the journey watching them grow and I know I should be blessed to have the opportunity to see them so often but I really just wanna stay home in bed.

Re: Getting sick during ultrasounds

  • I had ultrasounds every 2 weeks from 14 weeks... I went to a MFM practice for them and their equipment allowed for your head to be slightly raised.  I only had one time I felt horrible and that was when a new tech was training and I had to have her do the scan then a qualified tech redid her work- so double scan....I would also question why it was taking so long- the only really long scans I had was the one I previously mentioned, the NT scan, and the Anatomy scan.  My scans were always, a abdominal scan, then a transvaginal to check the cervical measurement- then the Dr would come in and double check the cervical measurements. Unless there are complications that they are monitoring/watching.... it is odd to have such a long scan.

  • They should be able to let you lay on a slight incline. Or on your side? That really helped me towards the end. Ask to take breaks if you have to.
  • I have had to take breaks the past two U/S because I would feel sick and light headed. I just ask to sit up for a minute or I'll switch to laying on one side. The babies are just to heavy at this point and then having someone press on your stomach doesn't help either.
  • Happens to me at every ultrasound since 20 weeks. Ask if you can lay on your sides. My last ultrasound the tech was able to do most of it with me switching from side to side. Which totally helped with the sick feeling!!
  • @LynnLee7 same thing has been happening to me. They now do u/s while I'm on my side. I also get up for a little break between babies. Hope you find something that eases the pain!
