Should I play softball??

Question, I've been playing coed softball with my husband for the last 5 years on and off and I'm scheduled to play a tournament next Sunday. I'm almost 6 weeks but I'm not sure if I should play. Books I've read say I'm fine to play but some friends say I need to pass on playing :/ please help!

Re: Should I play softball??

  • Some leagues make you sign a waiver saying "I am not pregnant" it is a safety thing: if someone runs into you, or if the ball hits you etc. but two weeks ago I was in Mexico playing volleyball and I took some dives and I am fine, so I am not sure if it is a "just playing it safe thing "

  • Thank you @Camille0786 ! I think as long as I do play safe I'll be ok. I appreciate the advice :)
  • I just joined a work affiliated league... By no means am I in shape (I usually buckle down in the spring and condition myself) but I've never played softball before.... First game is Monday but I'm going to try with the expectation I may not make it the whole season.... Good luck to you because I'm already exhausted after one practice!

I would, you're pregnant, not disabled so I really wouldn't listen to those friends. As long as you play it safe and no one is throwing softballs at your belly then you should be fine. Now go have some fun, you'll be fine!

  • I still practice with my rugby team, minus the contact of course. It's two hours of running and drills and I'm still doing well, I'm 8w3d and healthy. I even played a rugby game 3 weeks ago before I knew I was pregnant.
  • As long as you aren't sliding to get to a base or guarding the are so someone runs into you I see no reason why you would stop.
Like others said you aren't disabled. You're pregnant. No need to stop if it's something you've always done.
  • I would do it, unless it's super competitive (diving for balls, sliding into home, etc). Even then, your uterus is in your pelvis until 12 weeks, so very well protected. I ski in my first trimester even because of this!
  • My mom played while pregnant with me until she was showing.

  • Thank you so much everyone! !! I feel so much better about playing now ;)
  • I play in a coed league also and have played for years so that was one of the first things I asked my doctor and he said its fine to play until I'm about 20 weeks. I don't really want to play anymore after I'm showing anyways :)
