I suck at design and am hoping for some input. We are doing our nursery pale lemon, white blinds, we have been generously given a boori walnut cot from a friend.

I was really wanting white furniture but cannot justify spending money on a cot if we have been given an amazing one.

Do you think it's possible to have a dark cot with white drawers/ shelving cube or would it look totally mismatched? I thought a way to do it would be to get two toned drawers that included the walnut and white but can't find any in australia

Re: Design help..

  • IMO, I wouldn't worry about it. So long as your baby is loved and well taken care of, who really cares what the color of the nursery furniture looks like? I don't mean to come off snarky, there are just much more important things to me.

  • Our crib is cherry and we are going to get a white dresser today. Both are amazing deals. My neice has a dark crib and her dresser/changing table is yellow. I think you can make it flow. In the grand scheme of things PP is right about there being more important things, but I understand it being important to you. It sounds beautiful
  • Absolutely, you can pull the different colors and tones together with other accessories and decor, like a wall decal or wall art, a curtain valence or accent pillow on a rocking chair. I think that that color wood will look beautiful contrasted with the pale lemon and white!
  • I've seen a lot of nurseries where the furniture doesn't match in color and it kinda gives off a shabby chic vibe that I like. I think it would be fine if you include white and wood colors in other items in the room like shelves maybe and picture frames.
  • Here are a couple of pictures of rooms with mix matched furniture that I think work good
  • I love the very dark wood with white furniture! Of course you can mix. To reiterate a thread earlier....... You do not need to be pinterest perfect :) I am a freak about matching though so I also understand the concern.
  • I'm an interior designer and to be honest I hate hate hate matching sets of things- I never would buy a "set" of anything for a client and I always pick different pieces of furniture that compliment each other. I'm pretty sure I speak for 95% of designer out there ;) your nursery sounds lovely- trust yourself and make it your own space.
  • Walnut and white are perfect
    Throw in more lemon
Put spotlight art around the walnut piece and tie it all together. Make it the focal point.

I prefer a mix! I might add a few touches to integrate the darker cot (a basket or two in a similar tone, for example), but I think it sounds really nice!
  • Thanks everyone
