was thinking of making our social-media announcement today on April fools.. Thought it would be funny but now having second thoughts. What do you all think?
I know a lot of people who jokingly announce on April Fools. And I've had friends who have struggled with infertility, miscarriages etc who become devastated by the fact that people think it's a joke to announce fake pregnancies. I guess what I'm saying is be careful about it because you never know the challenges of those around you, so make sure it's clear you aren't joking.

This! It's very inappropriate to joke about something so personal that can effect people like that. Obviously yours wouldn't be a joke but I would be very careful.
As someone who struggled with infertility, I would just lean towards not making it a joke. You never know who is going through it. It's painful enough to see people announce they are pregnant when you are constantly worried that it may never happen for you and potentially going through very painful procedures with a specialist. That's just my two cents though.
I struggled with infertility and loss myself. We are announcing on April Fools because we are pranksters and love this holiday. As someone who has gone through a very hard time getting pregnant, I don't see anything wrong or offensive about announcing on April Fools. I think it's a mean joke if it isn't true and you say "just kidding!" Since you are actually pregnant though, I don't see why you shouldn't!
Me: 28DH: 29 TTC since July 2013 September 2013 period still hasn't started since getting off BC October 2013 OBGYN prescribed 4 months of unmonitored Clomid 3 Months of Clomid, ovulated once Opted to not do 4th cycle without proper testing found new OBGYN January 2014 new OBGYN diagnosed me with PCOS ordered ultrasound January 2014 Ultrasound found possible uterine septum February 2014 MRI confirmed uterine septum, referral to RE March 2014 RE scheduled septum removal for late June Benched due to possible miscarriages if falling pregnant, back on BC June 2014 Septum Removal surgery, hysteroscopy/laparascopy Laparascopy revealed mild endometriosis Benched until September 2014 for recovery and healing October 2014 - First letrozole, HCG trigger, TI cycle, 18mm follie November 2014 - BFP - loss at 6 weeks January 2015 - Green light to try again 18mm follie, letrozole, HCG trigger January 2015 - BFP - two ultrasounds and strong heartbeat found on Doppler!!!
I briefly considered it too. Then I read a few blog posts about how fake pregnancy announcements are really hurting a lot of people and decided against it. Besides, I need to tell my family first, and our boys, which I'm really dreading. I will have to say something soon though.
I think it's O.K. because you're not joking. I've also had a miscarriage, so I'm not announcing on Facebook at all, but even if you were joking I wouldn't be offended. My miscarriage obviously affected me since I'm not announcing on Facebook at all, but not to the point where I'd judge you for an April Fool's joke. If you're really worried about offending people, then just text it to the people you really want to prank. My best friend is betting on how long it takes my mom to believe me. Have fun today!
My view is you are not announcing a fake pregnancy, but a very real one! No reason why you cannot announce a very real pregnancy today. We are announcing in person to family on Easter!!!!! I'm over 4 months!!!! No idea how we kept it a secret so long other than im not showing yet. LOL
It's my birthday so I think that's a great idea! All though you may have speculation if your being serious or not! Lol
Happy birthday, birthday twin! April Fools babies unite!
ETA I think it's fine to announce today, since it's not a joke and you actually are pregnant. I think the hurt comes from the false alarm, or the casual attitude people can have towards pregnancy, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Granted I've also never dealt with any fertility issues, so I don't know how much my opinion should count.
If I could have waited to tell everyone today, I would have done it. But since I have known since January and was over the moon with excitement I was not able to not tell everyone.

Make that three... it's my birthday, too! I just turned the big 3-0
I have struggled with infertility and loss myself. I think fake announcements on April Fools Day are cruel, BUT I planned to announce today and thought it would funny to have that "ya ok, April Fools!" response. However, I didn't make it that long and announced on Monday lol. As long as it's the real deal, I think it's hilarious. My opinion.
I announced today, not thinking. I just wanted to make it until April and we did a gender reveal with family last night... I had some people make comments like I was lying... I would never make it up, just couldn't hold it in anymore. If it doesn't bother you to get skeptical comments, then go for it!

You're not joking, which means it's not terrible like people who announce fake pregnancies. However, when I do see people I announce on April 1st I usually ignore it. I feel like they're either being a tool or just choosing a poor day to announce and I'll wait for them to clarify later.
