Potty Training

Question about 9 month old and the potty

So, DS is 9 months old, but has always been very easy to read and maintains a pretty decent schedule as far as bodily functions go.  Always poops once around noon and toots and grunts a bit before he poops.  We decided to try using his signals and putting him on his little potty when he starts to go.  Also, he rarely pees at night or during naps anymore, so when he wakes up from a nap or sleep, I take off his diaper and put him on his potty.  He doesn't seem to mind and it seems to work rather well. I'm not expecting him to be potty trained, but I figure if he gets used to it early on and knows what the potty is for, maybe it'll make things easier down the road?!

My questions are: Is this odd?  Has anyone else done this with their kiddo? How'd it work? Am I screwing him up by doing this?  We just slowly put it into his routine since he's so predictable.  Will he outgrow thinking this is normal? Will it make potty training easier?

TIA!

Re: Question about 9 month old and the potty

  • It's normal. It's called elimination communication. There are lots of books on it I would pick one up if I were you. I plan on EC'ing from birth with my baby. That's awesome that you are starting this!!
