@TheBorg7of9 Exactly OPINIONS.. And that's even worse because you have no excuse to be on here acting like you are lol @NoSugarCoating
Yeah, you know, this place would be SO MUCH BETTER if all the regulars who've "been there, done that" left and 1st Tri just had clueless newbs telling each other they totes have a baby bump at 5 weeks.

And I would contend that YOU were the one that started with the disrespect with "My god made childbirth..."

This is a forum with members spanning the globe. It is very diverse, with members of all religions, and lack of religion. It is offensive to claim your god "made" childbirth.

I'm late to this, but FWIW with my first, I was taking folic acid (because well that's obvious)
I asked my doctor if I should be taking any extra multi vitamins because all I was living on was apples and toast, and he said, no that my body would work it out.
So I followed that advice with DD2 as well. They both seem ok.
This time around I'm on iron and magnesium supplements as well, because I had deficiencies in those two things prior to pregnancy and my Dr. wanted me to continue.
So I guess my point is, not all Doctors will recommend general multi-vitamins, and really you should ask your Dr for their advice, and go from there.
I tend to stick with a simple PNV that I can chew and an iron supplement since I'm anemic to begin with and given how much I work, I really don't have the luxury of nice, well balanced meals, so for me it's essential that I take them.
And charmberry, I honestly don't think anyone was trying to be disrespectful, nor were you. I'm a Christian, went to a Christian College, the whole nine yards and
A) It's been in those environments that people have unintentionally and unknowingly become very "judgy," so you probably didn't mean anything bad but connotation warps things sometimes, especially online so be prepared for that when you bring up religion.
You can pray and pray but bad things will happen to good people who try to do everything right so suggesting to people to just leave it up to God could have a very negative outcome since you don't know the experiences other people have had and it could be very hurtful. Yes, I believe God has a plan, I also believe that sitting by and waiting for that plan to hit us like a bolt of lightening will result in us missing said plan. We have to be proactive and like I said before, pray to God but swim toward shore.
Not everyone has to agree with everyone else.. that's what y'all fail to realize.. do what YOU want to do.. I don't care.. I can comment whatever I want as can you.. you shouldn't be on here to attack because someone feels a different way than you.. pregnancy hormones are real huh.. @BlueWaffleSpeshul@TheBorg7of9@theborg@dchiapella@NoSugarCoating
Not pregnant either, but thanks for your concern, kitten.
A prenatal vitamin is not going to hurt you in any way, and can only provide benefit. If you don't take one, AT LEAST take folic acid tablets
My 2.5 year old son was born with a tethered spinal cord. It's a very random thing to happen, especially considering that neither of us had anything like that in our family history. It's possible that taking a prenatal and high folic acid when I was trying to conceive could have prevented that, but vision is 20/20.
I'm pregnant again at about 5 weeks and I am taking 4000 micrograms of folic acid per doctor's orders (versus the usual 400 micrograms that most people take).
Pretty insane @PugsandKisses was so sure about prenatal vitamins going through so much testing. You do realize that over the counter prenatals are not FDA approved right? They are treated as dietary supplements only. So much for the billions of dollars in testing. Let's keep our judgmental comments to ourself and be supportive and respectful of all the women on here. We're all here for extra support and insight.
yes, I do know that the FDA do not test vitamins. However they are still in their jurisdiction for safety (ie, their lab and company that makes them). And PNV have been tested for what amount is the safe amount to take. That testing cost millions.
And what the heck does that have to do with support? I rather give information to support people that have some one have with a child with a spinal concern. It is like car seat safety, I rather have some one tell me 'hey, you car seat is wrong' instead of some thing happening to my kid and I found out that people knew but did not tell me because that would not have 'supported me'.
If you're so confident that you weren't rude and being unsupportive I'm confused why you deleted the post I'm referring too. Sure if you presented the information in a respectful way there's nothing wrong with it, but you're post was just mean. Take it easy girl.

I'm not trying to be nice. I am trying to prevent neural tube defects. Furthermore, it is not disrespectful to disagree with your opinion on folic acid. Especially when your opinion is wrong. I am not sure why you want to discourage people from preventing easily preventable and devastating conditions. My God would never approve of this.
I am saying that my OPINION is based on science and your opinion is based on … nothing at all. God never said (in the bible or elsewhere) not to take vitamins. If you were drowning, would you just sink to the bottom waiting to die because you trust God? Or would you swim to the shore because God gave you arms and legs to do so?
Neural tube defects are real and are caused by deficiencies in folic acid. Taking a multivitamin with 400 mg of folic acid reduces this risk. That is 100% true.

Pugs' post is still there, so I have no idea what you're talking about. Blunt and honest =/= rude and unsupportive. Giving misinformation is more unsupportive than blunt, honest information.
