We're trying to go with something traditional / revive an old name. But we want to stay ahead of the name trends so that there's not 40 other girls with the same name. For example, we had Amelia on our list for DS a few years ago, before we knew he was a boy. Since then, we know multiple people who named their girls Amelia. Do we like the name? Yes. But we want something our friends haven't used yet! My grandmother was Margaret Elinor. If we go with Margaret, she would be Maggie for everything except official documents. All other name choices would alternate between full name and NN, just like DS alternates between William / Will. (Josephine / Josie, Caroline / Callie, Violet, Eleanor / Ellie, Alexandra / Lexi)

If you want to stay ahead of the name trends then the only name you have on your list that meets that requirement is Margaret.
Right now there is a steady steam of Carolines, Violets, Eleanors, and Josephines... so it's the same situation as Amelia. Alexandra is also a good choice, but I hate the nickname Lexi because it just cheapens such a lovely traditional name by making it sound trashy.
I would choose Margaret, but instead of Maggie (another overly popular nickname) I would be bold and use Peggy, because it's cute and you would absolutely be ahead of the trend by reviving (as you said) this old classic.
My second choice would be Josephine, with either Jo or Josie as the nickname.
I love Caroline because it's my name, Violet because it's a name I can't use for several reasons but I still love it and Elinor with that spelling because it's my pick for imaginary probably never happening baby girl #3.
But if you go with Caroline, I think Callie is a strange NN. Just go with Caroline. I'm a Carrie as a NN but it was the 70s/80s.
These are all great names! If you want to stay away from trends, toss Violet. I absolutely love Violet but apparently so does everyone else over the past few years.
Caroline is great too but pretty common in my area.
I voted for Eleanor because I love love love this name. PP said it's becoming trendy, but my area it's practically unheard of. The NN Ellie is super trendy though.
My second choice is Margaret NN Maggie. Maggie is another of my favorite names. And again, it's NOT overused in my area at all. I rarely meet anyone with this name.
Josephine and Alexandra are good names too, but I'm not as crazy about the NN that go with them. For Alexandra I definitely prefer Allie as a NN.
I voted for Margaret because I like the nn Maggie the best. All of the names are great and go with William. I do prefer the Eleanor spelling to Elinor.
I couldn't even pick one to vote because o like them all!! My least faves would have to be Alexandra and Josephine though. Love Margaret, Violet and Eleanor.
