HELP!

I'm 25 weeks. First time mother and I have flu like symptoms with no fever and no vomiting. Congested head nausea chest pain and congestion runny nose clogged and sore ears sore throat cough and sneeze. Is it worth going to the ER tonight or wait until Monday and go to a doctor?

Re: HELP!

  • It sounds more like a cold. I say as long as your drinking fluids you don't need to go to the ER. It can wait until Monday, but make sure you drink plenty.

  • If it were me I would not go to the ER. I would only go if I had body aches and a fever in addition to those symptoms. I might go to an urgent care or wellness clinic tomorrow if the symptoms were really bugging me, but would most likely wait until Monday to call my doctor. But honestly, do what is best for you.

    Feel better soon!
  • Does your doctor have after hours call service? If you are concerned I would try that first.

If you don't have fever you don't have flu symptoms. If you suddenly feel like you may stop breathing or die from cardiac arrest then go to the ER...aka, you may actually die. other wise it sounds like you are suffering from being really sick.

ETA: I guess you could have the flu without a fever, but that would seem odd to me. I wouldn't go to the ER for the flu...and also call your mom...or grandma...or partner...or any trusted family member and ask them. Probably not the best thing to ask random internet strangers about this.

  • Vomiting is not a symptom of the flu. High fever and body aches are, though. Sounds like a cold. But if you are truly concerned, ring your doctor up.

  • I am not really a person to over react to cold symptoms so no I would not go to the ER... I would, however, check with my doctor about some safe cold remedies.... The germs in the ER would probably be a lot worse than the cold you are experiencing.

Although, my 5 yr old had flu a few months ago, and her symptoms were vomiting & headache. Never had fever. Tested positive for flu immediately.

OP, I think you can wait until Monday, but if you're concerned, call your OB's after hours. They may have you go to doc in the box. (Urgent care) good luck!
  • I wouldn't go to the ER, but my opinion may be based on me working in icu and being medical. I would just call the doctor in the morning. Hope you get to feeling better. In the meantime, stay hydrated and get some rest.
