Progesterone Suppository Discharge??

I had a cerclage placed at 13 weeks due to short cervix.  At my doctor appointment this week (22 weeks), my doctor put me on progesterone suppositories (Endometrin 100 mg twice a day).  She said that there would be discharge, which I would have expected.  I started the suppositories Thursday morning and have had some increase in discharge.  But this morning, I got up to go to the bathroom and everything was fine.  I went back to bed and 2 hours later I went to put the suppository in.  I felt kind of wet, and when I took the applicator out, it was dripping a whitish fluid.  It seems to have slowed down or stopped for now, but just wondering if this is normal?  I've tried calling my doctor, but for some reason the answering service is not connecting.  All I can read is about women who have taken this for fertility treatments, not this late in pregnancy.  I'm worried that it's my water leaking, but trying to to freak out too much.  Thanks!

Re: Progesterone Suppository Discharge??

  • Hello- I am at risk for pprom and I have to use the suppositories too. I am 29 weeks 4 days and there is a lot of discharge. I didn't use it one day because it made me worry that my water had broken but I really think that is just an effect of the medicine (I also know that due to my complications I will have a lot of bloodshed my waters breaks and there hasn't been any). But yeah- it is just gross, have to wear a pad.

  • Hello,

I am in the same boat as you. I had an emergency cerclage put in and I am on the suppositories. I have a watery discharge and I went to check it out. I'm ok, told that unless you have a constant watery discharge that soaks a pad you are ok (in terms of leaking fluid).
    I hope this helps.
Good luck ladies. We all need reassurance when going through this.

  • I was put on suppositories two weeks ago and there is a lot of discharge but like the OP said unless a good amount of discharge comes out than its probably nothing to worry about but good to always talk to your dr first.
  • Thanks ladies!  I went to see my doctor today and she tested the fluid just in case and it wasn't amniotic fluid.  She said to expect the discharge to continue and expect some spotting as well.  As long as I don't soak through a pantiliner in a half hour or so, it's fine.  You would think that they could make something that wouldn't have side effects that are similar to labor, especially for women who are already worried because they are at risk for preterm labor!
