Baby Names

How popular is the name Henry?

I know where it stands on the SSA list based on numbers - a little higher than I'd like, but I only know one little Henry in real life. How many do you know or know of people seriously considering this name for future children? And if you don't mind listing where are you located (south, midwest, northeast, etc.)

  • I live in the midwest, and we just named our New Year's Eve baby Henry.
  • I love this name--one of my top choices right now but there are a LOT of boys named Henry where I live (DC).

  • It seems to be getting popular where I live (Deep South) but it's such a classic name that it could never be viewed as trendy.. I like it!
  • Pacific Northwest here. We have a Henry and met another Henry at the park last week.
  • Southwest. I've met one Henry, ever and he's probably 6 now.
  • Numbers don't lie it's very popular. It's also classic so while popular it won't be dated. I know no less than 5. Also the more children you have to more you actually encounter kids with the popular names. When pregnant with my first I was shocked at a lot of the top names but then once I started being around more and more parents I encountered lots of kids with the popular names.

Adding to this-- To judge popularity you also have to think about how many babies and toddlers you actually know. They're the ones with the popular names of recent years. My best friend teaches first grade and she has rarely met a Liam...but numbers show that it has become extremely popular, they're just not in school yet. She'll start seeing them in a few years ;)

  • I know 2. One is less than a year, lives in CA. The other is 4 or 5 and is here in AZ. Henry is one of our top names as well.
