crib versus bassinet in my bedroom

Hey Bumpies!

I know that my baby will be sleeping in our room for a while, but I was thinking of still having the crib in the Nursery, and just using a bassinet at the bedside. That way, naps can still be in the nursery and the baby can be used to sleeping in both places.  The super advantage to this is also that I won't have to take the crib APART when I transfer it to the Nursery. What are your thoughts on the bedside bassinet?

Thanks!

Re: crib versus bassinet in my bedroom

  • I don't know if anyone puts the actual crib in their room, unless they plan to room share. There was barely room for the pnp in ours.

I did a PNP for DD1 and a RNP for dd2. I tried naps in the crib but they were longer in bouncers and such so I transitioned them later.

  • I have always put a bassinet in our room or co -sleeper until the baby was bigger. I will be putting a mini crib in our room however due to we don't have enough bedrooms to have an actual nursery this time. This baby was a surprise so until we can find something bigger we will be sharing our room. I will still be using a co-sleeper until she is about 5/6 months old.

  • FTM here: but we have the crib in the nursery (no way I'd take that thing apart just to move it into another room!  Thats just me ;) ) and will be using a Halo bassinet in our room.  The Halo seems to be pretty space efficient and easy on the eyes compared to all the PNP's and co-sleepers I've seen.  Also, its pretty mobile so I can have it right next to my bedside.

  • The baby's crib will be in her room, the family room will have her pack n play and our bedroom will have a bassinet that my grandfather built. Before you say anything my husband has already reinforced and secured the bassinet, so it is deemed safe.
  • Yup, that's what we always do.  Bassinette next to our bed and crib in the nursery :)
  • From experience with my DD, this LO will be sleeping in its crib in our room...I feel that too many sleep locations has contributed to my daughter's poor sleep habits still at 18 months...I'm hoping getting used to the crib from day one ( or 3) will be helpful....DH will be in charge of putting it back together when we move to the nursery, but I plan to keep LO in our room for 6 months.
  • I'm putting the crib down stairs in nursery, and a pnp upstairs in my room. I love the halo bassinest, but I think the pnp will be handier for diaper changes, and use later on.
  • We used pnp in our room. I have a bassinet but dd would automatically roll onto her side at birth so I was worried she would roll against the side and not be able to breath (paranoid, I know).

  • I used a bassinet until our first outgrew, then put the crib in our room for a while. She was preemie, so I wasn't yet comfortable in moving her to her own room yet. I will be doing the same with this one, but bought a half crib to save some room. The nursery will have the full sized crib in it, and when we move her to the nursery I will sell the half crib.
