Getting to Know You - Occupation

Hi all, I know we're still pretty early for the month (I'm sure we'll have many more join!), but there are a decent amount of us already. So, what do you do for a living and do you plan on staying after having a baby? Let's get to know each other!

  • I work in finance and the hours make it so hard to have a baby at home (i have a1.5yr old). I plan on taking a couple of months off and then going back after baby #2
  • I work as admin assistant/human resources at my family's construction company. I will take 6 weeks off and then back to work for me.
  • I'm a photographer. I have a job I hate, managing the photo department at an eCommerce company. My husband and I are moving out of state in summer 2016, so I will quit my horrible job and hang out with the baby until we move. We thought we'd wait until the move to TTC, but I realized that if I found a good job in our new city I'd have to quit or go on leave soon after being hired! This way, I can have a year with the baby and then start my job search.
  • I'm a stay at home mom and nursing student at night. I'm only in community college right now, so after my spring quarter, I will be pausing my classes.
  • I work for a not for profit as an HR Generalist. I plan on taking 8 weeks off and then returning back to work.
  • I'm a high school teacher and will take 6 weeks off and return until the end of the semester. The hopefully I'll be able to take a sabbatical (whole semester) starting in January and not have to go back until Aug. 2016!
  • I work at Childtime as a Junior Kindergarten Lead Teacher. I also serve as management for their center as Team Lead. I will be returning to work after taking a couple months off for baby number two.

  • I'm a labor & postpartum doula and placenta encapsulator. I'll take clients as long as I can but will take a hiatus from birth support after my own birth because it's too hard to manage with a nursling :) I was working for a NPO during my last pregnancy and had a 14 week maternity leave, looking forward to having a little more control over my schedule this time around!
  • I have a 16 month old now and and had a positive test today! Expecting baby 2 on Oct 10. I work full time in sales for a major oil and gas company. Unfortunately, they only offer accrued disability as "maternity leave," so I'll be taking 8-12 weeks off. I'll only get paid though for 3 weeks. Being a working Mommy is tough! Looking forward to meeting other working mommas!
  • I am a stay at home mom and part time nanny. I will take a break from nannying but it's only 2 hours a day so I'm hoping to be able to juggle it. We will see.
  • I'm a 1st grade teacher. I went back to work in September, when my son was 7months old. We have a nanny and she's amazing! It looks like I'll have to return back to work after baby #2, but in April...that'll give me 6months off. I'll only be there for 2months then it's summer vacation.
Going back to work is the worst. I still have a hard time with it....but knowing we have an amazing caregiver helps!
  • I left the FT ad world after LO #1 and now am a freelance copywriter. I'll likely take a couple weeks right after this one arrives, but am lucky to have balance and manage my own workload. (I think I'm trying to convince myself... I have no idea how I'll keep up with the new addition plus an almost 3-y/o)
  • I'm a graduate student.  My schedule is fairly flexible, and I'll be able to work from home for the semester, which ends in December.  Classes won't start up again until January, so it looks like I will have about 3 months "off."  Thankfully, I'm near the end of my doctorate, so the next couple of years can be spent writing at home.

  • I am a personal trainer and run my own training business. A great deal of my client base is online, which will allow me to work from home after baby is born! I'll most likely take a few months off from going into the studio, but then have freedom with my schedule when I decide to train again.
  • I'm a hairstylist. We just moved less than a year ago to a new state so I have been building up my clientele. I don't know what will happen once the baby's here. It will be hard finding someone we trust with no family around.
  • I am a middle school math teacher. Since we can't afford to have me stay home, I guess a teaching schedule is the next best thing!
  • I work for the government as an attorney. I went back to work when my LO was 19 weeks. I'm hoping to go a little bit longer with this one. I've been a vacation time hoarder for almost two years so it should work out.
  • I'm a sitter for now but mostly stay at home momma. Hubby is in the Army and we'll be moving around the time when baby is due so once I found out I was pregnant, job searching ended. I recently have done nursing, and I've served at higher end restaurants.
  • I work graveyard shift on a crisis line, I'm also in graduate school and doing practicum. I'm hoping to switch to relief staff at work and continue my studies, but i haven't fully worked it out. We're waiting for our new home to finish being built and we have so many other things going on, so it's gonna be a crazy year
  • I'm an executive assistant at an international nonprofit.  Just like with DD1, I'll take 3 months FMLA leave... may even try to ask for 4 months.

  • I'm a labor and delivery nurse and I could never leave, I love it! I did cut down my hrs after LO #2 arrived as a compromise because I felt torn between going back full time and leaving completely.

  • I am an esthetician and Barista. I work 6 days a week and some 12 hour days. I did this when we bought our home for extra money and just haven't felt right walking away from all that cash when I had no excuse! Now I'm planning on doing strictly skincare 4 days a week, then when baby comes take off 6-8 weeks and go back part time. I'm so blessed to live near my sister that's a stay at home mom, a mom that is soon to retire and retired in laws so I'm hoping childcare will be a breeze! So nice to meet all of you mom's to be! I love having the support as I'm young and it's my first pregnancy.
  • I'm an RN full time on the night shift. I went back when my son was 10 weeks old and I will go back full time after this little one as well.
  • I'm a wedding and lifestyle photographer on weekends and am a program coordinator at a small non-profit full-time. The non-profit doesn't provide any maternity leave, so I'll be hoarding my vacation, sick and comp leave to take as much paid time off as I can before taking time off without pay. Hoping for 12 weeks of leave, and then will ask to work out a work from home schedule to cut cost on child care.
  • I was a corporate event manager but I recently decided to quit the industry and go back to school! So now i'm in my first semester of Interior Design School, which i'm loving. I have no idea what I am going to do for the fall semester, I may just take it off and go back to school in January again or maybe take one online class.
  • I am an esthetician too! I work at a spa and do mostly waxing allthough I occasionally get booked for facials. I really wanted to focus on facials when I went to school but somehow I became the wax queen when I started at this spa. I even have had a few somewhat famous clients!
  • I am a part time landscape designer and part time mommy. I am currently trying to get a f/t job. I am also a start up newborn /maternity photographer on the side. I don't know how this interviewing process is going to go down being pregnant and all! Already having all day sickness! 6 weeks.

  • I am an executive assistant and photographer, I will be returning back to work after LO#2. I'm hoping to take off 12 weeks but we will see since my company doesn't have maternity leave either.
  • I am a stay at home mom to my two girls (4.5 & 16 mos.). I also do the billing for my husbands business.

  • I work at a daycare center. It is so rewarding!
  • I teach grade 3. I will be taking my year off and then returning! I may take September before my due date off as well so I don't have to start the year for a month and then leave my class.

  • I am a stay at home mom to two wonderful little boys...3.5 and 2 :x
  • Hi everyone!

I am a SAHM to a 20 month old and I also make jewelry which I sell on Etsy. I also babysit part time, but that's basically so I can buy beads! For the time being, I plan to keep staying at home after #2 comes.
