Baby Names

Brother to Grace Catherine: Andrew David or Samuel David?

My daughter, who will be 3 next month, is named Grace Catherine. Our last name is long and Swedish and starts with a G.

We already have a name picked out if our next is another girl, but we are having trouble deciding on a boy name. The middle name will be David, for my dad.
What do you like more: Andrew David or Samuel David?

I am comfortable/like all the nicknames for Andrew, but I love the idea of having a little boy named Sam. Can't really imagine that we would call him by his Samuel all that much, but would want to give him the full name anyway.

What do you like more and which do you think is a better sibling name for Grace?

Thank you!

  • I wouldn't make the decision based on what's a better sibling name for your first child.  I would go with the name I liked best.

You like Samuel better than Andrew.  Done.

  • I prefer Samuel David. If nn's happen, then it's Drew David (not a fan of the alliteration) and Sam David.

  • I like both, I'd probably pick Samuel.
  • I have two cousins named Andrew and I think it's a nice name :) but I know a guy from high school who was Samuel David who was Jewish. Samuel and David are both Hebrew names and Andrew is Greek, not sure if the origin of the names matters at all to you, but they are both nice. Personally of the two I like Andrew David better though
  • I wouldn't worry too much what name sounds better with his sister's name.  I like Samuel David better.  You like Samuel/Sam better too...you love the idea of having a little boy named Sam.  Decision made.
