Baby showers are for FTMs. Anything else is tacky as all get out. And yes, you need to write proper thank you notes for all those shower gifts you receive, and you don't get a year to write them. Stay classy San Diego.
@butthurtpolice And this just shows how you are as a person who knows NOTHING about me! Take a long look in the mirror before you ASSume who I am as a person. You're just a poster to me, just as I am to you! Stay CLASSY!! Lol! Have a great day!
Funny how the ONLY people that think showers for subsequent children aren't tacky are the ones that are having showers for their 3rd, 4th, or 5th kid. SO KLASSY!
We all have opinions, a simple yes its tacky answer would suffice. The people having their 3rd and 4th have nothing to do with anything. I dunno about anyone else, but my family and friends are very excited, I wouldn't want to be rude to them and say "no thanks, ur idea is tacky!" Let's just respect eachother. We learned that in childhood
This thread is the perfect example of why the whole mess went down with the bump. Our culture has become SO entitled and SO self-absorbed that everyone thinks they're (and their children) are a special wondrous miracle and nothing they say or do should be criticized, no matter how tacky, insensitive, greedy, selfish, rude, or just flat out wrong they may be. Everyone gets 9 showers! Everyone gets a trophy! Everyone has a "right" to say whatever they want, even if they're completely wrong! Who cares what anyone else thinks as long as YOU are happy and getting presents! We are all winnerzzzzzz!!! Hip hip hooray!

Question- is anyone NOT having a shower who is a FTM? I feel like I'm an exception to the rule because I just don't want one. The main reason being that the only family who lives nearby are my mom and dad. My grandparents live across the country from us and my inlaws live in CO (we're in the PNW). There's no point to me in having a shower when hardly any of the people who I love can even be there. Secondly, my husband and I planned for this baby, knowing how much money it would cost to get all of the baby items, and we do well financially. I don't feel like it's necessary to have a party, the entire purpose of which is to get gifts. I did create a registry just because I know grandparents and other family will be sending gifts.
We're thinking of doing a sip and see when all of our family will be up after the birth but only to celebrate the baby, not to get gifts.
Did you just really throw out the word TACKY!!??!? LMAO THAT'S RICH! And no it's not " tacky "unless you are actually not prego lol! Baby showers are a right of prego women everywhere!! Enjoy! Chasi

First of all, quote function, yo. Learn it and use it. No one knows who you're talking to.
Secondly, I suggest you redefine your concept of human rights. The right to not be discriminated against is a human right. Having a baby shower is not.

@bossybluejay I think we talked about this in another thread, but yeah. I feel similarly - I know my best friend wants to do something, but I already talked to my mom about it - it will be limited to like 6 people, mom, aunts, and my 2 closest girlfriends. It's just not my thing. Most people who know me well know to donate to our project in DR Congo rather than buy me "stuff" if they want to give a gift.
I say have one I was going back an forth with this as well I'm having my third in June an my last baby is now six yrs old I have nothing at all I took a poll an asked around an got many if the same kind of answers many of which where yes have one an every baby should be celebrated it's a new life so go ahead an have one doesn't need to be fancy an in my case this is my boyfriends first baby so naturally his family wants to have one
@kaegibaby Given your statement that showers are a human right, I assume you would go to say.... Syria? Liberia? Haiti? To host showers for for the millions of pregnant women there living in war and squalor? I mean, I know they're probably sitting up at night thinking "who the fuck is going to get me my pink diaper genie???" and "omg, I hope no one gets me some ugly outfits I didn't register for!"

Way to make every other WK post in this thread look reasonable by comparison. I'm impressed.
In England a friend of mine had a shower for her first and even that was pretty frowned upon by lots of my friends, so I guess a third would go down like a lead balloon. But that's just us Brits. I say go for it if you don't feel as though your friends and family will feel like you're taking them for a ride.
Oh screw what society thinks! She's not having the whole world at her shower. If a person's friends and family want to throw one, so be it! Peole who find it tacky do not need to go, but they also dont need to make her shitty about having one. It's a personal choice per individual. If everyone minded their own business and if people stopped caring so much about what other people think about them and their choices, this world would be more peaceful

You are aware that this question was posted on a public forum and that she specifically asked if this was tacky.
Sure do, and we are all entitled to our opinions.....which is what she was asking for.
No its not tacky at all. I'm on my third, (I have 2 sons), and this is my girl. I am elated and I want to share this experience with all of my family and friends. Daddy and I will be buying all of the big ticket items though, but I am excited to be able to share this with my loved ones. Have your shower!!
"Tacky" is just a word people made up so they can look down on other folks to make themselves seem better. Even if you don't need a bunch of baby stuff, you still deserve to celebrate! Throw a big damn party, have a marvelous time with your friends and tell those jelly bitches to suck it.

Umm, I'm pretty sure name calling is a direct violation of the new TOU, you might want to check yourself before start calling names like that.

Don't even bother with her. This person requested gift cards instead of gifts for her baby shower. She is the DEFINITION of tacky.
