I think they usually recommend either Dreft or the kind that is free of dyes and perfumes. I never used Dreft, just the Free and Clear kind. I didn't use softener but did use dryer sheets (also free and clear). The extra perfumes and such can be irritating to LO's skin.

Dreft is the biggest rip off ever. It has more perfume and dyes in it than regular detergents. Our NICU nurses have a whole tirade they go into at the mention of it.
Use a free and clear. I would try introducing fabric softener around 3ms or so when their skin isn't as sensitive. But be prepared to have to wash everything over again if they have a reaction.

I would avoid fabric softener completely, but we're pretty anti-chemical in our house! Dreft is amongst the worst choices, weirdly enough.
Just use a free and clear detergent. After a couple month I just used whatever the rest of our clothes were washed in because my daughter wasn't that sensitive.
Thanks ladies! I had a lot of people telling me to use Dreft. I'll probably go the free and clear route since you all seem to use it. At least until I find out if she's sensitive to the perfumes.
We used purex with purfume and dye free. I usually washed DS clothes by themselves till I made sure his skin wasn't reacting to the fabric or fabric softener. He's four and we still wash most of his clothes seperetly

Whether she's sensitive to them or not, it's really best for everyone to avoid them. Dryer sheets, too. Parabens and phatalates are everywhere, but limiting them when and where you can isn't a bad idea.
Seventh generation baby will be what we're using. I have super sensitive skin and we're anti chemicals in my house. Agree with everyone saying dreft is horrible stay away from it!!!
I got one...can I use fabric softener when washing LO's clothes? Or do I need to use a certain type of detergent?
With my first everything was washed in All Free & Clear. After two weeks I switched to normal tide and fabric softener. With this baby I am washing with my normal tide and fabric softener.
I will only wash her clothes the week before she arrives. As far as the sore breasts I also heard cold cabbage leafs do wonders.
My stupid question Sunday is, anybody else's LO just hanging out in their ribs like mine is. Holy moly I thought DS had done a good job of expanding those things. Apparently she need thinks hanging off them is a fun thing to do. Maybe mine is a little more on the Monday bitch statement than a Sunday question. Sorry
My stupid question is, does anyone have any past experience nursing with pierced nipples? Mine are pierced and I've read that I should be able to nurse ok, just curious of anyone else's experience?
@tigerlilly25 I'm a FTM and decided to just take them out and let them heal but I always had an issue with getting little bumps on the openings or crusties no matter how much I cleaned them and I had them for about 4 years. I figured since they couldn't stay free of anything I would just let them heal up vs. having to fumble around with the tiny pieces with a crying baby who doesn't want to wait for me to get them out and clean up before giving her the boob. I'm sad that they are gone but I'll redo them again.
@mnharkcom yea I just keep getting jabs in the back portion of the ribs. I know it will get more uncomfortable as the weeks come. I thought for sure after DS, she wouldn't be so cramped but apparently she likes to stretch her little toes
@tigerlily25 I believe there was a thread on this back a few weeks. Might be more helpful to look there unless it has been deleted since the massive ban hammer.
Mine are pierced. The doctor and my piercer told me the holes from the rings won't cause a problem while BFing. I'm leaving them in for now just in case LO and I don't stick to BFing. If we do I'll take them out and have them redone if they grow up.
Is 10$ a good price to ask for 8 bibs and 6 burp cloths that have either never been used or only used once or twice? Selling some stuff we don't need because no one we know needs it either and we can use the money to buy a MamaRoo. I'm just not good at this
ETA: We have about a million bibs and A lot of the outfits we've been buying come with bibs too, and never used burp cloths because receiving blankets worked SO much better for DS with his reflux. Just planning on doing the same this time. I promise I'm not "OMJEEZ IM HAVING A GIRL SO I HAVE TP GET RID OF ALL MY BOY STUFF!!!!!"
Also, sell the bottle warmer or keep it just in case DD doesn't nurse, needs warm bottles? It's a BRU brand and I really don't like it (really small, and we hope to reuse out TT bottles) so maybe if I sell it it will be a good excuse to buy a new one if we need it? We used it twice before I got mad at it and DS liked his bottles cold anyway because of his reflux.
Technically Monday now where I'm at, but my question is: Do I register for a bunch of different bottles or just one type? I've heard a lot of people say you need different kinds to see what LO will take, but does that cause major nipple confusion? I'm planning on BFing, but if/when I go back to work I will need to pump. (P.s. I love that one of the bottles they make now is supposed to even LOOK as close to a boob as possible. I find that so cool for some reason).
I'm going to jump in and ask a stupid BF question, since I haven't take the class yet. If I mostly pump, will that cause as much pain as trying to get the baby to latch? I've been trying to read up on BF and I see so many stories of blisters on the nipples and such. Just wondering if I can avoid that by mostly pumping?
@tigerlily25 I had mine pierced in 2002 and probably took them our about 4 or 5 years ago. They never closed up but when I leak I leak from the piercing holes too.

With my first I only registered for one type of bottle. I was gifted a couple sets of that type. I BF primarily but my husband gave pumped milk when I was not home. She took to the bottles I had just fine and didnt have nipple confusion. Each baby is different though. I used and plan to use Tommee Tippee. I'd say just register for the ones you want but keep the receipt so you can return the unused ones if your baby doesn't take to them.
I never used a bottle warmer because there is nothing worse than being in public with a crying baby that expects his milk warm! So i always did straight out of the fridge bottled water and called it a day.
I heard bottle warmers are a waste. Also I registered for about 2 of every type of bottle and then opening one at a time to see if the baby likes the first kinda I open, then I'll return the ones aren't open.

That's what we did with DS, which is why I want to just sell this one. Having it just sitting there is a reminder of money wasted lol

Apparently with all of the board craziness, I'm our current resident crunchy mama. I'm not even that crunchy, I swear!

A lot of people swear by the A&A swaddles. I've never used them though.
I had a hard time using the muslin to swaddle but with a summer baby its a light blanket that would be good to have.

Can those things thaw BM?
Should i put all the baby clothes on gentle or is a normal cycle fine?
But onesies and shit like that are fine on normal.
