Hey all! Happy Thursday. My favorited link wasn't working this morning and I started to panic that I couldn't get on today. I am pissed at work so wanted to hang out and then I couldn't get on! Phew, good thing I remembered how to find the board the long way.

  • I got a second interview for the job I want.  Only problem is that they shared with me at the first interview that they haven't received notice that the grant will be renewed past 6/30/15.  Obviously I'm not going to quit my job to take something for only 4ish months.  So I emailed the HR lady back and asked her if there had been any grant updates and professionally explained my situation.  I'm hoping that doesn't make me look like a dick, but seriously.

How can you expect someone to work for only 4 months?  It's not a job that anyone off the street would qualify for, so it's a select pool of applicants that they're dealing with.  Just seems weird.

Meanwhile, the college literally 2 blocks from my house has an advisor position open that I'm absolutely qualified for and I haven't heard anything.  I applied 2 weeks ago.  WTF?  It's literally the exact same job I do now, but with business programs and not allied health.  My last job was all business programs, so it's not like I don't have experience with it.  Seems so weird.

  • Oh, and update on my FIL the doctor?
He went home at lunch yesterday and the uncle was sitting in the living room watching tv.  Turns out there's nothing new wrong with him, he just hates my FIL and only comes out of his room when he's gone!  Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!  I was dying laughing about it.  Last night I called him a drama llama and Nancy has been repeating it constantly.  She better stop that before next Saturday when we have to see them all.

But seriously.  What kind of a-hole sends an email saying "I don't think he's going to make it through the weekend and I started writing his obit?"  I mean come on.  He's the last one--4 brothers and my FIL and this uncle are the only 2 left.  When this uncle dies, there will literally be no one left in my FIL's family (other than us) except for one girl cousin who lives up north somewhere.  If that were me, I'd be doing anything and everything to help my brother get some help.

  • Good luck on the second interview @marisakathleen.

I'm here today. Yesterday was sell oldl car/buy new car and shopping! I can't decide which part I was more excited about. It was nice to have a full day with just DH and not drag along a kid. I enjoy shopping so much more that way.

  • So I'm now working on B's big boy room. I can't find a comforter I like but *might* have found a duvet. I've never had a duvet. Who has them and is it a love or hate? Keep in mind it gets super cold here so I need something soft and warm. Also I'm might annoy you for a split second with a polyvore scene ha!

I had duvets for years and love them.  They keep you really warm (sometimes a little too warm).  My only complaint is the down comforter gets tangled it in pretty easily, but I think there are ways to remedy that.

I'm here.  I just bought a turtleneck online that I saw on a blogger.  I'm not even sure I like turtlenecks anymore.  That's why blogs are dangerous (for me at least), I see and want so many more clothes than I would have otherwise.

Good luck!  I'm sure you're not the only one concerned about the 4 month gig, so hopefully they understand.

Also, not hearing for 2 weeks may just be because they're slow.  We easily sit on resumes for 2 weeks here when things get busy, I can imagine the same thing goes at colleges as well.  I would follow up though in case you got lost in the shuffle or something didn't go through right.

We've had a few duvets and I don't have complaints.  You have to straighten them out sometimes, but it's really not a big deal.  If you decide to go that route, I got this duvet filler on super-sale for Maya last week:

We use duvets, you can get different inserts for the different seasons if needed. I just use the same since we keep the house at the same temp regardless of the season. I like that they are easy to toss in the wash with my sheets and less expensive to change out than a comforter.

  • So I found this duvet on RH and love it. It would go with the industrial kind of feel I want for B's big boy room. I have headboard I bought from a neighbor and I'm going to refinish it and paint it a navy blue color. I might use the waxed paint you ladies (I know @hmp1) have used. His curtains are going to be a navy linen and I'm going to do the pipe curtain rods. The wall art on the bottom is just ideas but I did purchase the vintage plane (lower left) from Zulily. I'm 75% sure on the rug as well to throw something trendy in there. The flooring we have is the exact shown. I also have a light up vinage B to hang on his wall somewhere. The stripes on the top are the colors I'm thinking of going with for the walls. Currently he has a white border painted on the walls that is about 6 inches wide and trimmed out on the top and bottom. My biggest thing right now is the actual comforter or duvet.

  • I loved my duvet.  Easy way to make sure that the comforter doesn't move is to safety pin it in a bunch of spots.  I think we used around 10 for a queen sized, mostly along the edges.

Anyone plus size feel comfortable in maxi skirts?  they have some really cute ones on zulily today, but I worry I'm too pear shaped for a maxi skirt.  I have maxi dresses that I love, but I dont think I've worn a skirt in 10+ years...

  • My younger SD (she's 17) has no concept of spending money wisely and it's driving me crazy.  A couple of weeks ago she called DH to ask for over $200 to apply for colleges.  She wants to apply to 10 colleges, even though she only wants to go to one right in her backyard.  It's not cheap to apply to schools and I see no reason to apply to 10, especially if you have no intention of attending them.  I can see 3 or 4.  I told DH this and he agreed with me, but he gave her the money anyway.

Today I get an overdraft notice from the bank that she overdrew her bank account.  I look and it was using her card at Panera and Taco Bell.  We don't keep much money in the account.  We pretty much keep about $10 in there and then DH just deposits money when she asks for it for specific things.  So she knows there isn't money there for her to just use it on random things.  She just does it anyway.  I forwarded the e-mail to DH but I know he isn't going to say anything.  So we just basically paid $15 for her to eat a combo meal at Taco Bell.  I'm so annoyed.

Last night I made the mistake of looking as houses for sale in my area, and I found the perfect house. Now I'm sad. DH and I agreed to spend the next month going thru every item in every room of our house and doing a major purge by our community garage sale in May. We are also going to make a master list of projects that need to be done to sell. Our plan is to do major renovations or move by 2017. I hope that having a plan helps me deal with how bad this house is for our lifestyle.

@marisakathleen how old are your FIL and uncle?  It sure sounds like some of the shenanigans my grandpa had going on later in his life.  They might just be grumpy old men (BEST MOVIE EVER) who have nothing going on and so this is their schtick.

@kissty thanks for reminding me to get a cookie from the fridge.  We have some keebler fudge cookies and I've been eating 10 a day.  I do wish they were girl scout cookies, though.

@amandad715 that is so cute, I hope they have fun!

@beebopandbuddy backwards shirt (that has print on it), backwards sweat pants, for a girl I would say a backwards necklace but I'm trying to think of the boy equivalent (assuming he doesn't want to wear a necklace).  Two different socks.

  • @tinyhumantoe, my FIL is 59 and the uncle is 57.  Both act like they're 104.  The uncle has MD, so his quality of life isn't awesome as it is, but he's still able to walk and scarily enough, drive.

When I'm ruler of Wisconsin, I'm making anyone over 60 pass another driving test.  I realize 60 is young, but with cases like these 2 jags, neither of them should be driving.  I look at my Mom, who is 58, and my FIL who is 59 and can't believe they were even born in the same century.

I always use my FIL as an example to DH....THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DONT TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!  DO YOU WANT TO END UP LIKE YOUR DAD?!  It always gets his butt in gear to go to the doctor, wear a helmet, not eat bacon as a snack, etc.  Those are the most recent ones I could think of I've had to pull out the Dad card for.

If it isn't too cold in the school, he can do summer on bottom and winter on top - sandals and swimsuit with a sweater and hat. Or switched with snow pants and boots and a rashguard, sun hat and sunglasses. That might be the warmer option so he can just wear a jacket over the rashguard.

I've watched six feet under like 3 or 4 times all the way through.  @tinyhumantoe, if you've not seen it, it's so great.  And it was so long ago that you've seen so many of the cast members go on to do so many different things that it's cool to see them in early roles.

Ok, I've watched Arrested Development (favorite show in the world), Vampire Diaries until I lost interest.  I watch a lot of tv apparently.

I will add to my list Parenthood, 6 feet under, the good wife, and I'm a season or two behind on True Blood.

I have not watched Revenge or Scandal.  Are they supposed to be good?  I love mystery/suspense dramas.

ETA: @mroxy0628 I LOVE the good wife.  I actually keep up with it on tv ;)
