So after about 2 months our primary care Dr has advised to take B to see an allergist due to his coughing and runny nose.
He has been on multiple medications and nothing has worked. My mom thinks our dr doesn't know what he's doing. He has been my husbands Dr since he has been born so I trust him.
Anywho, has anyone taken their child to see an allergist yet? What do I expect? They told me to not have him on any anti- histamines until his appointment on Thursday night so the tests will come up the most accurate. Great. So now B is miserable.

Re: Allergist?
It's worth it!! Though be aware the blood tests tend to be the least accurate compared to the scratch tests (which really are NBD), HOWEVER, ask for the component tests if something comes back if they do the scratch tests as the new component tests will help find "families" of issues. DD went through scratch testing and DS had a couple blood tests (which showed nothing - DUH! even though DS reacts whenever he ingests blueberries)... Getting to the bottom of what's causing the reaction will help. Sometimes if you're really lucky you can link up with an ENT clinic that is a "one stop shop" for all things sinus', allergy, and asthma.
Also, has the doc run any cultures on the "mucus" (i.e. snot, boogers, etc.)? For me this was the eye-opening thing because I found out we've been dealing with MRSA so of course the standard runs of antibiotics aren't going to do squat and not just a standard it's an allergy type issue. The biggest thing I found dealing with an allergist is that their attitudes about cold medications and allergy medications for kids is a lot different from what you'll find with ped's.
Just roll with it! It'll be well worth it. Keep a positive attitude with your game face on. With DD I didn't say a word about the scratch needles and instead told DD they're just ticking her back.. She did GREAT!
