Lost one of our identical twins

We went in on Tuesday to do the anatomy scan at 18w2d and found out that we went through vanishing twin syndrome and that one of our girls was gone. We knew it was a possibility but I've been sick up until this point with terrible symptoms and I thought it was a sure sign that they were both going to make it. Trying to focus on the positive here and not on the terrible, tactless things that people say ("at least you'll save on diapers!" Really???) .

Oh lord I hope no one actually tried to use that phrase on you. If they did -I apologize for their insensitivity and frankly idiocy and hope you punched them right in the kisser.
I hope your other child continues to thrive although I know that is in no way any consolation for the loss of another.

P.S. When people say stupid stuff like that, it's totally appropriate to respond with a comment along the lines of "Were you raised by wolves?" (Just a thought, in case an indignant "fuck off!" is not your style.)
People can be so stupid and insensitive! That diaper comment is horrible. Is that supposed to be a joke? Wtf... Yeah I would've lost it right there. I wrote a couple people off for their stupid cruel comments.
