We've been trying since January 2013. Doctor said give it a year. After a year of tears doctor put us on clomid for 3 months and I responded well! Never got pregnant though. Had a horrific HSG experience. Something that I was told was suppose to be simple had me in tears. Doctor was unable to complete the test. The next month my doctor did a laparoscopic surgery to complete the dye test as well as several other tests. I woke up from the surgery completely devastated. He was unable to complete the test. He said I had a blockage. So we worried for a while about what that blockage could be. The next month we got in at a fertility office two hours from home. He diagnosed it as cervical stenosis, which was the best possible outcome! The reason HSG and other surgery failed is bc my cervix was too narrow. I had surgery in September were he opened my cervix up and also worked on endometriosis spots. Said I shouldn't have that anymore since my cervix is opened properly. We felt so happy!! The next 3 months we did IUI. Those are not pleasant for me bc I have a difficult "s" curve to get into. Dr. said 3 strikes and your out. Had last IUI on dec. 28. I knew it didn't work. I had already financially prepared for IVF. So nobody was more shocked than me when I got my first positive!! After two years of negatives it's still hard to believe!! Congrats to all!! So thrilled for this blessing!! God stayed by our side throughout the last two years. We know we can get through anything with Him by our side!!
I conceived my now 4 year old son on my second cycle trying. I was 31. This time it took us 7 cycles. I'm 35 so I had just visited my doctor in early December and he gave me an appointment to get my fallopian tubes checked and for my husband to have a sperm analysis. We never made it to either appointment because I got my BFP the following week!
We started trying in May 2014. The first time I happened within a couple months, so this time taking 8 months was very frustrating. Here's hoping I have a sticky baby!
It took us 4 cycles. For the first 3 cycles I was temping, checking fluids, etc. Nothing, and my cycles varied from 21-32 days. For the fourth cycle, I used an opk and got my bfp! I realize it could be coincidental, even with perfect timing the odds are ~25% for conception, but the next time we're ttc, I'll be using another opk.
We started trying in Aug 2014 and conceived in the first month, but lost that pregnancy to miscarriage in October. We are still very sad about losing those twins (would've been fraternal) but were also surprised it only took one month. We decided to try again in December and lucked out again! 5 weeks 5 days today and hoping this one is a healthy pregnancy!
My SO and I have been trying for about 3 years. We were seeing a fertility specialist. I had several surgeries and various procedures to remove endometriosis, fibroids, and open my tubes. We went through Femara, trigger shots, and several unsuccessful rounds of IUI. My SO is 11 years older and didn't want to keep trying after he turned 50 (completely understood). We gave up and stopped trying back in October 2014. His birthday is the 25th of this month and we got a shocking bfp on New Year's day.
I really expected it to take a few months to conceive, at least. My doc wanted me to start trying asap if possible for age reasons. We decided we would start ntnp, and bam! First month. I'm a little unprepared, and we don't have everything squared away yet. But here we go!
We decided last month to start trying. I have witnessed so many couples who struggled to conceive and felt I was being optimistic by hoping it would only take 3-6 months. I was happily surprised when just weeks later I was holding a positive test! Praying that it all works out now and the little one sticks. Congrats to all of you and a special congrats to those of you who have tried for so long and been through so much!
Started trying Jan 2013; CP October 2013; found dermoid cyst in left ovary, was able to save ovary April 2014; complete and utter melt down November 2014; BFP January 2015. I was technically labeled "unexplained IF." 6 of my employees got pregnant during that time, and countless co-workers. It still doesn't feel real!
DH and I have been trying since October 2010. We went fertility route with no luck, went through a private adoption agency which shut down, and then out of the blue I got pregnant naturally
I was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2011 and had my first surgery (and had some uterine polyps removed). After that, I spent the next couple years working with my GYN on getting healthy and managing the endometriosis. Had surgery again in November and she re-opened one of my tubes that had collapsed. The next time I seeher I am giving her a high 5 because we got pregnant our first month after surgery!
BFP first time trying. Prepped by using Period Tracker app (free download in play store) to track my cycle for 2 years prior so I was really in tuned to my body! I also stopped BC around the same time I started tracking.
It took us over a year and a half with my first, and nine months with my 2nd (who just turned 8 months)... It was kinda like, "well we've always wanted three, if it doesn't happen in the next two months, we'll wait a while!" And then bam! We got pregnant the first try.

With our Lo it took two years, born 3/20/14. This time around... I had one cycle after I stopped breastfeeding LO and got pregnant without "trying" so to speak. Happy surprise. I thought it would take a bit longer, wrong!
My boyfriend and I were not trying, he had been told a few years ago that he had a 5% chance of having kids. So we weren't preventing. Now 7 weeks along, he's excited, at 32 this is his first, my second.
Mine was a total surprise. I've been on BC for a year and have had extremely irregular periods ever since being on this pill. Still shocked but very excited
4 years! I was starting to really research adoption vs embryo adoption because i thought having our own kids just wasnt in God's plan for us and SUPRISE! I guess it's a Christmas Miracle!lol I go to the dr friday. We both are in the "I'm not going to believe it until I see it" camp.
We were trying for a few months maybe about five or so. Nothing was happening to I backed off. When it happened, I thought we were off for my ovulation time so I put it to the side to pick up next month. When I took the test jan 3 which is the day I was due for period, imagine our shock!!
It took 13 months. We finally tried clomid oer my OBGYN and it did the trick thankfully! With my first I was pregnant 2 months after going off BC. We were freaking out this time!
Dh and I had been using FAM for years as a form of birth control. When we decided 4 years ago to TRY to conceive, we were lucky on the first month. This time around we just decided to no try not prevent, which went on for 2 months... Then came the month of December 2014
The first time, I was told after I took out my IUD it would take 3 months for my cycles to return to normal and then we could start trying. We got pregnant right after the three month mark. This time, it has taken 10 months, right after I stopped trying to chart everything just let it go, it happens! Of course. lol. Congrats to everyone on here and 9 months of heath & happiness!
We tried for a year and 4 months. We went to meet a new lady doc for my annual physical and to discuss infertility. I asked her if she wanted me to pee in a cup. She said, "Well yeah we should probably do that. I would feel really stupid if I missed that." Later that afternoon, we got the call that I'm pregnant! I have such irregular cycles that I didn't even consider myself late yet. God has His way of taking over the reins when you decide it's time to surrender, I guess. Feeling very fortunate! Blessings to you all and your growing babies!!
Re: How long had you been trying?
It took about the same for our first kid. And that was also the first month with the Preseed. I swear by that stuff!
