Doctor Sears is literally a horrible human being, and frankly any medical professional who tells you that vaccinations are unnecessary is a waste of space/life/the quarter mil it takes to finance an M.D.
I'm really tired of a bunch of people who want to act like they're "super educated" because they got a college degree and are therefore qualified to make decisions based on medical research that they pretend to understand. Vaccines don't just protect your special snowflake, they protect people who are immunocompromised like infants/elderly/really effing sick people who can't get vaccinated. If you don't vaccinate, you obviously don't understand relative risk. The odds of a severe adverse reaction with a vaccine, let's say MMR, is less than one in a million. Now, if your child gets measles the odds of encephalitis is about 1 in 500 and they'll probably leave the hospital with brain damage or sensory loss, but hey the risk of death is only 1 in 2500 so that's totally worth the risk of not vaccinating. Honestly, one of the reasons people get so pissed off when you ask a question about vaccines is because it's common sense. Do you not have a grandparent that can tell you what Polio did to this country? How about you watch a video of women around the world waiting in lines for weeks to get their babies vaccinated? This is such a first world problem that I can't even... It's too early for this BS. Rant over.
TLDR: Vaccinate your damn self and your kids.
I almost wonder if the anti-vaxing trend is a result of vaccinations working too well. My mother and grandmother have told me about their school life, and how students would just suddenly go missing from the classroom as polio struck them down.
I can't even imagine the horror of having my classmates randomly end up dead, or disabled as a regular course of the year. I can't imagine it because we have been sheltered from such a horrible thing via vaccinations and the practical elimination of these illnesses. People are so sheltered nowadays, and enjoy the privilage without even knowing what went into making thier safe little insulated worlds.
It makes me sick that all it took was one deeply disgusting amoral man to put that risk back into the classrooms.
I was not trying to get attacked here, just asking for some kind advice. We have read books, watched documentaries and done lots of research on both the good and bad of vaccines. I cannot be the only one on this forum that hasn't questioned getting them.
Dr. Sears is a great resource if anyone is looking to also educate themselves on vaccines.
I'm not gonna tear you apart here because I fell for the anti vax crap myself years ago. My daughter has autism and at that time a huge study came out blaming vaccines. Well, turns out the doc who ran it fabricated the whole thing and lost his license. My daughter is now fully vaccinated as you and your children should be. Herd immunity isn't something I'm willing to count on especially with the big outbreak of measles. I just spoke with my doc about this today. She is incredibly pro vaccine because of science. Yes, some will have a bad reaction but more will have a bad reaction to peanuts or shellfish but we don't all avoid those things "just in case". And in this situation you could be putting yourself or the life of your child at risk, please speak with your doctor I promise you they know more than any internet stranger such as myself or anything else you find online

Yes to all of this! My grandfather had polio as a child and it almost disabled him. Many people did become disabled due to it. I want to protect my child, not put her at risk. Or risk other children because I chose not to vaccinate. Measles, mumps, whooping cough, polio are all on the rise in the US due to the non-vax movement. These are diseases that should otherwise be eradicated here in the US, but more and more people are getting sick every year.
Also, for those who argue 'but autism!' (Which is a crock anyway). No one dies from autism. People die from measles & polio and even chicken pox. No one dies from autism. I'll keep my daughter (& all future LO's) safe and alive with all the help modern science can provide.
i would take into account what your doc says and research both the good and bad about vacinnating...even info from other countries who don't necessarily follow the US protocol. and then decide yourselves what you feel is right for your child...IMO you can't go wrong since at that point you're making the most educated decision for your family...no matter what happens later on down the road.

Um, no. You can go wrong if your decision is to not vaccinate.
Vaccines causing autism has been fear mongering nonsense for decades- my mother went through it when I was a baby. Sadly, the googles did not exist then. At any rate, even if there was a shred of truth to the vaccine/autism link, any mother would prefer an autistic child to a dead child, hands down. If you glance through the current anti- science garbage floating around (which I do because I'm a judgemental ass that enjoys being outraged) everything causes autism. I'm glad you actually did your research and decided to vaccinate. I don't understand why there's laws to vaccinate my dogs but not my children. End rant.

My FSIL is against vaccines, one of her sons is autistic. Vaccines, including everything else known to man, she's against and is positive caused her son's autism. I don't want to judge her because I can't imagine how difficult it is for her but when she tried to persuade FI to not get our kid vaccinated, it took everything to keep my mouth shut until we were alone. Modern medicine is a great thing, don't let your kids be unvaccinated!
I am hesitant about some of the newer vaccines (even for myself), but things like MMR and TDAP have been around for so long that I'm much more comfortable with them. For me, the risk of my baby getting sick, or me getting the flu while prego outweighed the slight chance that there could be a complication from the vaccine. If you're nervous though, talk to medical professionals and don't just believe what you read on the Internet, especially when it comes to vaccines.
To help moms make a fully informed decision, I would like to share my personal experience. I am in my 50's so I was a child during the time of no vaccines for childhood diseases. I contracted measles, mumps, rubella (German measles) and chicken pox. I was in first grade. Because of the illnesses, I lost weeks of school. Which in first grade was very hard to make up. Even though I was very young, the illnesses were all so uncomfortable that I still remember them to this day. For measles,(since this is the one in the media today), I had a terrible rash, felt so ill, and the light hurt my eyes ( I had to lay in a dark room). Also, some friends of mine had more severe reactions. One became blind from chicken pox. One developed rheumatic heart disease from a strept infection. She could no longer play outside or do sports. Pregnant women were also at risk for complications. The mother of one of my friends contracted rubella while pregnant and her daughter was born with mental retardation and deafness. So the development of vaccines has been a blessing. Just because you personally don't have any experience with these illnesses and just because they are called "childhood disease" do not take them lightly.
OP, posts like this are always going to bring in drama on these forums. People read too far or not enough. I would stick with talking to family about it or your doctor. And I personally am vaccinating my child.
I am pro vaccination!! The percentages of the studies with abnormal results is low. But think of it this way. If you choose to not vaccinate your child you are essentially allowing them to isolated. When I picked a pediatrician I specifically asked if they see patients who opt out of vaccines. He said no so I then decided he was my pediatrician. Have you seen the news lately?!? Measles outbreak galore. I sure as heck wouldn't want to be responsible for allowing my child to spread such a horrible (and potentially deadly) disease!
I'm sorry you are not getting the advice you wanted but this is a topic that was literally asking for opinions. And most people pro-vaccine are going to think you are foolish to do other wise.
I did go back and forth for a little bit. When I was younger I worked at a life care center that housed disabled children and young adults. One of the children had a bad reaction to her school vaccines and will now spend her life in a wheelchair, unable to talk, walk, feed herself or anything.. I will think about that girl till the day I die. That is awful and horrible but I will still Vaccinate my Daughter.
