I knew there was a GBCN community but was not aware of GBCB existing in any organized fashion.
I had no idea. And I don't get it. Do they just talk about how mean everyone is?
No, I think it has since moved on from that. From what I gather, there was some kind of mass exodus from some of the boards maybe 2-3 years ago? I don't know why. It was probably shortly before I started posting actively. But I had posted a question in the International board and since it was pretty quiet, someone directed me to the place everyone had gone. It seems to get a fair amount of traffic but I'm not active over there.
I just read the new guidelines (sticky post at the top of the forum) it makes sense to me.
This is pretty much the only board I frequent, though I lurk on the AP board a bit.
I think the CD board has been fairly lucky to avoid a lot of the BS and flamewars that strike other forums. But that's not to say that this board has been without it's inappropriate behavior.
It's a little sad that the Bump feels it's necessary to codify being nice to each other.
@Kelly11235 , it really threw me for a loop last night when I went to the other boards I visit, boards that are quieter than the CD board and there's not even a peep about anything happening. I just hope we don't lose so many of our regulars here that the extreme detergent folks take it over.

Don't worry. I'll stave off the detergent folks. My only posts might be "Nope. No, no, no, nopity nope!" But I won't let them take over.
Thanks awful, I didn't think so either. Snarky? Yes. Cruel? Nope. No, no, no, nopity nope!

Overall, I agree with Kelly. Maybe I would feel differently if we were losing regs, but I don't think it's insane to ask someone to be nice and be reasonable. The Guidelines don't look that different from how I understood them before. I feel like discussion isn't happening on the quieter boards because this is the sort of thing that you talk about on your "home board" and chances are a board that mostly gives advice isn't going to be too affected by these guidelines or mod flushing.
But I do have to say that it is an abrupt awakening that this isn't our platform, it's TB's. They could wake up tomorrow and decide that they don't want to manage forums and we would suddenly lose our social network. That's kind of rattling.
I guess that's why it's good to connect with people on facebook as well?
Keep in mind they can read and edit and change your pms.
It seriously sucks that this is happening to your board, mcbenny. I used to play over there a bit last year and you guys were all super cool and welcoming to me. I hope you all are able to salvage it somewhere else.
Banning regular posters is not something to be taken lightly. It may seem trite but taking away someone's community is cruel, and here it seems to have been done preemptively and without good cause. New guidelines, fine. But it should've been clean slates all around moving forward, at least.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!

I agree here. I would be really sad if the bump gods decided that boards needed to stay on topic and banned/deleted everything NCDR from our board. It seriously sucks to have someone just destroy your social home. Especially by entirely silencing people.
This is my worst nightmare. The most popular boards are the ones that go off topic the most because people create friendships. You can't base a relationship on strictly on topic convo.
But this has happened before and TB/TN rolls on. Their target demographic is always replenishing itself. They probably figure that regs/longtime posters probably only have so much time before their interests move on, so why bother.
And really....these boards are here to draw eyeballs to The Bump's advertisers, not to foster a community.
Right so why piss off the people that were here the most? Just take a look at the leader board for the week. Every one of those girls were on Parenting and most likely not going to post as much now. Every time the page refreshes, that's one more view for TB. Why run off the people who were on here participating in multiple threads and on multiple boards, refreshing their page every time they click into a new post? The people they are trying to cater to now (the drive-bys and new members) are the ones that post and run, never to return to see what answers they got. Those people aren't adding to the view count.
I think one of the things I skimmed over today said that they thought some of the board culture might be intimidating (my word, not theirs) to new people or lurkers looking to join a forum? And if that's the case, it's in TB interest to make a move that favors traffic from fresh meat. Advertisers are probably not interested in advertising to people who already own all the baby and toddler gear.

I think I would still be considered a relative newbie to this group although I'm not a newbie to TB itself, I've mostly lived in the over 35 boards. I may not always get the joke or understand certain nuances simply because I don't have a history posting on internet forums, but I haven't been intimidated here. You guys have been good to me and I've received support and advice despite the fact that I don't post very often. There may be a lot of sarcasm but if one takes the time to look closely they see it's based on personal relationships you've formed with each other, at least for the most part. I will probably never post frequently here simply because I have a toddler and who has the time...but I never feel uncomfortable posting.
Me:41, DH:41 Positive for MTHFR mutations- one copy C677T, one copy A1298C. One daughter born on Thanksgiving in 2013. Six losses.
So are mod's paid employees or more like a volunteer? Not that I like what's going on, but if they are paid employees I can kind of understand if they "reveled secrets" getting fired/banned. But if it's just volunteers then it's pretty poopie(no cussing) of them to ban people who GIVE their time to help the bump make money. Take away mod status, but let them stay around.

In short, many mods banned. People outraged. Decided to leave. Bumpmay actually responded to a post in A15.
