Prenatal Vitamins?

What prenatal is everyone taking? I have been taking Theralogix (Thera Natal Plus). They are horrid! They smell bad and I can barely swallow the horse pills.

I would love to take gummies but I haven't found one that has nearly the amounts of Folic Acid, Iron and DHA that the ones I currently take have. I would love some suggestions!

  • I wanted to take a really good prenatal so I got on Amazon and looked around for probably 2 days before I decided on Rainbow Light Prenatal One vitamins. The only thing is they don't have DHA so I bought a separate DHA vitamin called Spectrum Prenatal DHA. The RLPO vitamin itself is Food Based and is great because other than the fact that it had over 1000 reviews and I believe 4 or 5 stars overall (which to me is impressive), it has ginger in it and you don't have to eat with it & you only have to take one a day. It tastes bad and the pill is huge but that doesn't bother me. Now the Spectrum Prenatal DHA pill doesn't have fish oil (which I like) & it's a softgel so it has no taste, plus the pill itself is small. I still have to show my doctor at my next appointment just to make sure he's ok with them. I'll comment again once I get his approval(: but take what you like. Keep in mind, vitamins almost always stink/taste horrible and prenatal vitamins seem to all be big so it might be hard to find ones that aren't unless you do go the gummy route.
  • My OB put me on prescription ones. They have everything. Omega 3s, iron, calcium, and both folate and folic acid. They are decently big, but for 1 pill a day and not having to even take with water I'll stick with them as long as possible.

  • I tried 3 different prenatal vitamins and all 3 made me sick. My doctor told me to take flinstone vitamins once a day and a folic acid pill 3 times a day.

  • I am taking Biotics prenatal packs and I have been for 4 years straight. Taking vitamins never have bothered me much.
  • I took the costco brand with babe 1 and am with this pregnancy. Had no problems with it and they are half the cost!

  • I take One A Day prenatals and I haven't had any problem with them (taste, sickness, etc). They have 800 mcg folic acid, 28 mg iron, and 200 mg of DHA. You can buy them in bulk on Amazon. And if you don't like a giant pill, they also offer them in 2 separate, smaller pills.
  • I take Materna by Nestlé and have been fine with it but am considering switching if there is something better.
  • Nature Made. I buy them at Target. I find the tablet form is much easier to swallow. The capsules made me gag every time.
  • I take Spring Valley Prenatal with Folic Acid. I get it over the counter at Walmart. It doesn't bother me. Medications that might bother me I try and take at night time. That way I usually don't experience much discomfort since I'm fast asleep. I know this won't help the smell but maybe you could stomach them better.

  • I took the prescription ones for about four days. They made me so sick I'm back to my Garden of Life Kind Organics

  • Rainbow light from whole foods ,take one every night before bed.
  • I also take Rainbow Light prenatal. They are available at target and BJ's wholesale in my area. I supplement for DHA with the target brand which are not fish based. No issues with upset stomach but I also take them at night or just after dinner.

  • My doctor gave me a prescription but my copay was still $50 a month! I asked about a cheaper generic but he explained that there were not really any generic prescription prenatal vitamins. The only way drug companies can make money is to keep changing them up and giving them new names. He said it didn't really matter what I took. I could even take Flintstones. I have been taking the store brand with no problems. The prescription makes me gag.

Have you tried taking them at night right before you go to sleep?
  • Rainbow Light for me as well. It is the first multi-vitamin I've found that hasn't made me sick to my stomach. I also take an additional DHA supplement.
  • Garden of Life Raw prenatal! (It was one of the few I found that had folate and not folic acid and the capsules can be broken and dumped into a smoothie if you get tired of big pills.). ...and a double dose of vitamin d/ dha, and 4 extra mg of folate, and a probiotic, and an extra B6...and...and...and...the pile just keeps growing...
  • I take Rainbow Light Prenatal ones and I LOVE THEM! I'm a vegetarian and this hits all the target requirements and doesn't have animal by-products. My doctor said it's one of her favorites. I also take a vegetarian DHA supplement made by DEVA. I've had no issues at all with either of these and I'm pretty sure the DHA is helping with my memory and alertness.
  • I just take folic acid the pragvit made me sick and midwife said I really didn't need to take them. But she did say to continue with the folic acid
  • The gummies are the only ones I can keep down!

I have been getting really bad headaches lately, I didn't even think of the prenatals as the cause until now. Interesting correlation. Let me know if you find any remedies!
  • I have been taking Spring Valley prenatals from walmart. Don't do it. They smell awful. Everytime I open them I throwup.
  • None anymore...my GI dr told me to stop taking them.

  • New Chapter Perfect Prenatal. Huge, 3 a day, tastes like dog food, wicked expensive, but the best quality I can find so totally worth it :)
  • I have a few family members who's doctors have recommended Flinstone chewable vitamins with iron :) I'm thinking about trying it because my doctor said my gummies weren't cutting it.
  • I take the GNC Prenatal Program right before I go to bed.  If I take them in the morning, my belly gets upset.

  • I take Whole Foods/365 brand prenatals, and Green Pastures cod liver fish oil pills, and a daily probiotic.

    DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)

  • I'm taking the Vitafusion Prenatal. From Walmart. They're gummies with no iron, something that made me sick terribly. So far so good with these! With DHA and folic acid :)
  • @gmd88‌ I laughed out loud reading your post. I choke down the New Chapters and dread it more and more every day.
  • I also take the Costco prenatals. They were on sale, super cheap. But they are big and have a fishy taste so if you have trouble getting pills down then they probably aren't for you. Me, I have no trouble swallowing horse pills.
  • I take prenatalgyn. They are kinda pricey, but my OB says that it is the best prenatal vitamin she has ever seen. And when it comes to my and my baby's health, I don't see why price should be an issue. They also have ginger in them to help combat morning sickness which I have yet to really experience, so I LOVE them! Plus they have a money back guarantee when you order. https://www.prenatalgyn.com
  • I take the VitaPearl prescription prenatals.  Everything else makes me sick, but these I can handle.  Without insurance, they are $144/mo.  With my insurance thru the pharmacy, they were $88.  Luckily, I told my doc, she talked to their rep, and the company now sends them to me for free every month.  LOVE THEM!!

  • im on the 2 a day (prescription) preg vit - one in the morning and one in the evening.
  • My Dr put me on the chewable vitamin
  • I use RLPO also and love them!! I just make sure I get enough DHA in my weekly diet to make up for not having enough in the pills.
  • I have a few family members who's doctors have recommended Flinstone chewable vitamins with iron :) I'm thinking about trying it because my doctor said my gummies weren't cutting it.
Same here my nurse said take flintstone's instead of the gummies :( boo. I don't like the taste right now and I don't have low iron, but that is what I have switched to.
