We just found out that baby is healthy and happy and a boy. Now it is time to get serious about names.
I'm not going to lie, I absolutely love the name Angus. Love it. What do you think? And you can be honest. The whole reason I'm asking is because I know that he'll be teased and called 'anus.'
Beyond loving the name, here are my reasons.
1. Alexander McCall Smith's story 'Dream Angus' is an all time favorite of mine. It is a beautiful story.
2. It represents my scots-Irish heritage. Dh is Hispanic, so baby will have a Hispanic last name.
3. Angus is the Celtic god of laughter, bravery, and good dreams. What else is there to aspire to?
4. I don't really worry about the teasing. I have a boy's name and it has been a pita my whole life. I was teased as a child and as an adult I always get entered into systems as a male, especially insurance. But that didn't define my childhood nor my life now. Having a name with a good story and meaning would define me more.

Love it but wouldn't use it

Mmmmm....cheeseburgers.
My BFP Chart
I like the name- it's similar to August which is one of my favorites- but those was my first thought that came to mind when I read it. That said, I think you should choose the name you like and try not to care a whole lot about other people. If it has meaning to you go for it. Our name has been criticized on the bump for being a nickname and needing a "full" version. Don't want a full version so not Im not doing it.
THE DARK SIDE IT IS

~All AL always welcome~
Agree with pp though. Anus is an easy go to tease name
I had a kid in my grade growing up that was named Angus and he was never teased or anything and as a kid "beef" or "anus" never really came to mind in regards to his name. I really think it would sound weird with a Hispanic sounding last name though.
Me 33, DH 37 -- TTC since Jan'12 -- Low AMH (0.78) & endo, SA w/ low motility
IUI's 1-3 = BFN, IVF converted to IUI 4/13 = BFN

Beta #s = 445;1,098; 9,545 -- EDD 5/2 -- Team Pink!
Did not even think of beef until other's mentioned it.
I like it, but was in school with an Angus, and would not use it because of that.
Go for it! My married name is VERY Hispanic and I would love to throw people for a loop w a really not common first name.
Go for it, you have great reasons and its a strong name.
Just because McDonald's decided to specify what breed of cow they use for their meat.... Bastards!!!
I know a few Angus's in Aus
So I say go for it!
Thanks for the feedback ladies. I had dismissed the cattle breed issue a while back and totally forgotten about it. The really funny/odd thing is that I grew up on a registered angus cattle farm. My papaw loved the breed and wouldn't raise anything else.
In addition to the ac/dc reference, Angus is also the first name of MacGyver.
Also, I now find myself really liking Linus. I had never considered it before but find it charming.
Lastly, Fergus is another option. It is probably what we will end up with, but for now, we'll keep our ears and hearts open to other names.
Thanks again! We haven't gone Facebook public with this pregnancy (previous losses make a girl crazy), so I really needed a big honest audience to bounce the name off of.
Have a beautiful week! Xoxo
Fergus reminds me of fergie, and ferguson...just my opinion.
This! This may also be a problem. Dh is rather short and round, so the baby might be too. Both ds and dd are lean and ds is shockingly tall. So it would be bad if Gus turned out to be a Gus Gus.
Or that 90s movie with the angry kid named Angus.
