Did your baby/babies need any NICU time? Why & how long? How much did they weigh when born? Did they get the steroid shots for lung development?

Re: Anyone deliver around 35w? NICU time?

  • my boys were delivered at 34 w 3 d.  I did not receive the steroid shots- and they needed no breathing assistance.  They spent 17 days in the NICU to basically "learn" to eat.  They had not yet developed the suck, swallow, breath reflex- and this is something you can't rush- it just happens.  they were good sized- a little over 5 pounds each.
  • I had my twins at 34w. I did get steroid shots at 32w. 13 days in the nicu as feeders/growers. No breathing assistance. They were 5lbs and 5.5lbs.

Completely caught up milestone-wise between 6-9mo and size wise between 12-18mo (well, one is still a bit of a peanut but on the growth chart)

I delivered at 34 weeks 4 days.  I did have steroid shots at 28 weeks.  They were born on Tuesday morning and came home the next Monday night so about 7 days in the NICU.  Baby B needed CPAP for less than a day.  After that it was just learning to eat, maintaining temperature and under the lights for jaundice.

I should say that now at 13.5 months, they are about 85% for height and weight and pretty caught up on milestones.   Still waiting to walk but we are on the cusp.

D & L are here at 34 weeks 4 days by vaginal and breech delivery on 11/19/2013
Two healthy boys weighing 4 lbs 15 ozs and 4 lbs 5 ozs.  Only 6 days in the NICU and getting bigger, stronger and cuter every day!

I am!! Thanks! Doc says delivery no later than 36w tho, which I'll gladly take! Baby B grew but his blood flow is intermittent absent now.. Once it goes to completely absent they are out. I have a feeling it's soon coming, but I'm totally happy with progress.

  • I delivered at 36.3. A scheduled C-section for my mono-di girls. They were smaller. 4.7 and 4.3 lbs. They spent 12 and 13 days in the NICU with learning how to eat, jaundice, and temp regulation. No respiratory issues. They are 9 months now and doing well. They do have some gross motor delays. One of my girls is in PT because she is a bit more delayed.

    Ella - 10/19/10
    Julia and Aubrey - 4/3/14

  • I delivered at 36w, neither girl needed assistance. Weights were 5lb2oz & 4lb14oz. We did stay 1 extra day in the peds unit - both girls lost over 10% the first 24hrs. So, basically wanted to make sure we had a plan & feeding was going well. We started supplementing w/ banked breast milk and were released at 3 days old. They're both doing great now at 2.5 wks old! Gaining weight & working on dropping supplemented bottles.

I did get steroid shot at 32 wks.

Both girls went to NICU for evaluation. my 5 lb 7 oz one stayed 7 hours regulating temp. The other was 4lb 11 oz and stayed 16 days for aspirating fluid and feeding issues.

  • My girls were born at 33w6d. They weighed 4.14 and 4.10. We were in the NICU for 11 days. They needed enough time to gain weight then maintain weight gain and also to eat enough. I got the steroid shot for their lung development the week before the c-section as a just in case.
