Growth spurt and pumping

So I think DD has hit her 6 month growth spurt the last two days. Luckily I was home to nurse for the weekend but now I'm at work. She woke up and nursed twice last night which isn't usual for her so my supply is super low today and for the first time I probably won't get enough for tomorrow's bottles. I'm ok because I have frozen so I can make up the difference.

Any advice from working moms to get through this? Should I pump tonight after she feeds for bed? Luckily I'm off W-F so I can nurse and we started some solids so that might help too.

Re: Growth spurt and pumping

  • i wouldn't worry about pumping extra. if i was short for a couple of days, i would just send milk from my freezer stash. if you have a comfortable amount, that's certainly the easiest thing to do. if you're going to be home with your LO for 5 days, then i would nurse on demand the whole time your home, and that should help boost your supply a little if she is having a growth spurt.

as you said, you could consider adding in some solids soon. that gives you a bit more flexibility. my pumping supply dropped a bit when my DS was 7-8 months. i sent frozen to top off the 3rd bottle for a little while, but eventually i just dropped to 2 bottles at DC and sent solids as a replacement for the 3rd bottle.
  • Thank you! I've also downed almost 3 liters of water since my last pump hoping that helps some too haha. Pumping is my demise - I will be glad when I don't have to do it anymore - so adding more pumping at home sounded like hell to me. I've got plenty of frozen if I need it. DD didn't eat much at daycare last week anyways so we'll see what she actually ate today. I might still be in the black for the week if she didn't eat much.
