Also, he sends harassing, nasty emails that I have been keeping a folder of.

He sounds like a real winner. How has he not been fired yet? Sorry you have to deal with that.

@hmp1 is she a friend or well known? Now I want to follow her.

She is not a friend but a friend of a friend. Her account is public so I stalk her.

  • Your boss sounds like a complete and total ass @bper.  Is he by chance a "good ole' boys" type of guy?  I only ask because it seems like men of a certain generation seem to think a lot of those things are ok things to say.
Nope, not a good ole boy.  There's already an HR investigation going on in our office that he's the target of.

He's a snobby Norwegian that has never been anywhere but Academia.  He's socially inept.

  • @BPer I had no idea it hadn't gotten that bad there!  Seriously I would be saying something and showing them all of those emails, because that is completely inappropriate!  I just can't believe some people!
He's already been confronted by the Chair of Equity and Diversity over the comments he made to me while pregnant, but his behavior doesn't change.

I don't want the guy to get fired...but he needs some serious HR counseling.

    STUCK:
If he's already been talked to by HR, there's pretty much no hope left that counseling is going to help him.  He needs to be fired.  Especially from an HR standpoint.  With all the documentation you've been keeping, he's a liability.  You could sue them for hostile work environment and who knows what else.  That would not only be bad for the college, but for that guy.  My bet would be that if there's an investigation, he won't be there much longer.

  • Oh here's another good one.

He came behind my desk to look at something over my shoulder on my computer the other week.

My purse is on the second chair in my office next to my desk, so he glanced at it, and then walked over and straight up stared into my purse.

I am on quite a few meds right now, and had pill bottles in there and he announces in front of 3 others "What are you, on drugs?"

  • My dad gave me an awesome Christmas bonus. I mean, I work 1 day a week. I really don't deserve anything. I'd like to give a little more to the community. We did Angel tree and Operation Christmas child. Sent money to our sponsor child in Africa but really nothing local. I am on a real time crunch though. I'd love it to be something personal. Not that I want the people to know it's from me, but I want to know I personally touched a family vs just giving to an organization.

I really wanted buffalo pizza for lunch but it's always so spicy! Takes me forever to eat.

I am also hoping for a snowstorm on Sunday. I need more time home. Grace is supposed to be with the kids on stage at church Sunday night. So church 2x in one day. plus the hour round trip both times. But she LOVES signing (or trying to) with the kids. Ugh.

  • I got one of those recipe exchange emails where I reply to the top person with a recipe and then send to 20 people with the person that sent it to me as the top person. I don't mind providing a recipe to the people listed but I do not want to wrap 20 more people into this loop. And I really don't need 36 new recipes. But it is a work thing so I feel a little pressure to do it. Ugg, why!?! Just do simple recipe swap with friends like we do here.

  • Can I be stressed out and negative on here for a minute?  I have no one to stress out to in real life that is providing me any kind of encouragement.  I tried to talk to my mom and, as usual, she is the opposite of helpful or supportive.  Ok, here goes:

We have to drive to NY this weekend for DH's family Christmas party.  5 hours up Saturday, 5 hours back Sunday.  Then, on Christmas day, 4 days later, we have to rush through the kids opening gifts so we can get back in the car and drive 5 hours back to NY to make a 5 p.m. dinner with SD's and stay there until Saturday to drive 5 hours back.

I knew this was happening for a while now, but it kind of hit me this week when I started making my mental to-do list.  I am not looking forward to any of it AT ALL.

That is a LOT of time in the car! Is there any way to combine the two gatherings, like move SDs dinner to that first weekend you're up there?

Does your church do food baskets?  Do you know of any foster families?  I will tell you that the food basket from our church and our friends was a God send and I don't know what we would have done without it.  I will also tell you that my company works with local businesses/ people to provide a gift for each child in foster care and then we did a food drive to give Christmas food baskets to our kinship families.  I think there are a lot of local things you could do.

I think it is really great that you want to give back locally!

  • I'm not sure what our church does. I can ask on Sunday. See about giving something extra. Or send our Pastor an email.
  • I am in my office ugly crying. Like, mascara everywhere trying to catch my breath. Over an internet story... a photo documentary of a lady who had to put her dog to sleep. Why am I so sensitive? The last time I did this was over a cat, and I was pregnant and didn't know it yet. Oh wait, is that a sign?

    I'm losing it. For reals.

I would talk to your pastor.  They often have a discretionary fund that they use to help in emergencies that arise for congregants, but I bet he knows about plenty of needs in the church community that you could help with.

That's ridiculous.  You're nicer than I am.  I would want him to be fired.

No, DH insists that we all have to be together on Christmas.  This was the first year that I've been able to talk him into Christmas morning at home since SD's never get out of bed until noon anyway.  So he agreed that we could just see them for dinner.  I tried to get the family party moved to an earlier weekend but they wouldn't because the one kid that is in college won't be home yet.  No one wants to be flexible with us, and DH is the worst one.  SD's spend 2 hours with us tops.  I think we should all see eachother on Christmas too, but not move heaven and earth and torture two innocent kids in the process when SD's act like they would much rather be with their mom's family anyway.

I would email the pastor today and ask if there is a family in need that you can personally help (anonymously) through the church. I know from my line of work, I have seen a lot of families receive money from their church in order to help stay in their home.

  • Does anyone remember when I said I was adopting a kid and the mother only had really expensive items for herself on the wishlist?

I had a bad feeling about it, but in the end DH & I decided it was for charity anyway, so however she chose to use the items was up to her. I went ahead and sent some cool hot wheels loopdy thing, extra cars, batteries to run it, a bunch of books, and a superhero hoodie through Amazon. Amazon of course sent 3 separate packages, all delivered within 2 days at the end of November.

I just got an email from the organizer asking if I ever sent anything. The mom is claiming 'it must have been stolen' and what is she supposed to do now.

I feel terrible for this kid, but this woman is clearly trying to scam a charity. Is she serious? Give your son the presents I sent, put your name on the tag, and call it a day. I want to cry for this poor kid and then smack his mother.

    Kid #1 - 09/03/12
    Kid #2 - maybe???
    Diagnosed with Severe Ashermans
Hysteroscopy #10 - scar tissue grew back reblocking my right tube
#11 or IVF with scarring still inside?
1 lone embryo from September 2016 retreival, dx with Trisomy 16, starting fresh

This breaks my heart.  Maybe I'm just feeling weepy today.  Can you screen shot the tracking info and show the charity?

Ugh! That is awful! I don't get that. I feel like if you go through an organization there would be some sort of screening process. I know they have warned of increased theft this year and you really have no idea.

Oh no!  That is so sad.  The poor kid.  :(

We just adopted families through a local organization and we able to hand-deliver the gifts, which first of all was amazing and we met some awesome families but also allowed us to make sure that they got their gifts.

I could see my exSIL doing something like this. It's all about them, not the kids.
