so again my phone won't let me search... Anyway...LO keeps rolling to his tummy to sleep. He is now 5 months and 1 week...when is sleeping on his tummy ok? We stripped the crib to just a sheet and he sleeps in a sleep sack
Can he roll to his back? DS2 has been rolling to his tummy in the crib sporatically but he always adjusts/turns his head to be in it's side. He does not face plant. At this age I believe the had good head/neck control and will adjust the sleep position to breath correctly.
He does turn his head to the side (no face plants) and he does lift up with his arms...I've seen him go from tummy to his back during tummy time but not in his crib.
DD's been sleeping on her tummy for about a month now (she'll be 6 months on Friday). If your LO can lift their head up and move it from side to side, I wouldn't worry about it. We're actually at the point where she prefers to sleep on her tummy now so unless she's completely asleep when I put her down (extremely rare) she rolls right over and goes to sleep on her stomach. Last night she got fussy and after a few minutes, I went in, gave her her pacifier and rolled her back onto her tummy. She settled right down and didn't make another peep until 5:30. It was glorious.
We had a rough couple of weeks right when DD turned 5 months (she'd roll over and wake up crying). Luckily now she seems to just continue sleeping when/if she rolls over. I always put her down on her back, though.
LO is a tummy sleeper now as well. During tummy time he will roll to his back and when he is on his back he rolls to tummy. He sleeps so good on his tummy now too. I've not be stressing out about it since he is able to move he head, body and everything so well. He has even begun pushing up like he starting the process if figuring out crawling
I asked the pedi last week at his 4 month appointment, and he agreed that as long as I put him on his back but the baby's the one rolling over to sleep on the tummy, that it's okay. Dr. Google had already told me before that it was okay if the baby is the one initiating it, but it was nice to have our actual doctor agree. Like Iowen83, our LO will now push up (especially first thing in the morning) to look around and I really think this is going to help his crawling develop.
As it is, he already moves himself all over his crib. I wish I could do motion capture pictures of his pack n play all night--it would probably be pretty entertaining.

Thank goodness it ends! LO wakes up crying during naps and at night because she ends up on her stomach. My LO will be 5 months on the 24th and she has been rolling in her crib for about a week now. It's terrible!
Her sleep is still far from perfect but yes, it's much better now than it was right around thanksgiving! Hang in there!
Generally, most doctors will say that once they can roll to their tummys themselves, then you can leave them like that. I put DD down on her back every night and she immediately rolls onto her tummy.

This. Right when he turned 5 months he would roll over to his tummy and wake up pissed. Two weeks later he rolls onto his tummy and settles back to sleep.
