Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

what time of the day did you have the BDAY party?

I sent invites for a Sunday brunch 11 am. My LO will be probably cranky and in need of a nap by 1pm. So I am thinking to cut the cake at ~12:15 and open presents at 12:45pm. However, I am afraid it will be a bit rushed.

What was the timeline for your party? Did you plan when to cut the cake, etc or you just went with the moment?

TIA

  • I planned it around his nap. He naps from 11:30-1pm usually, so I had the party at 2pm.

  • We had our party at 4 PM after both of DS's naps. That way there would be no rush and we would have a few hours before bedtime. We had no specific timeline, but our party was small. We just went with the flow and ate, had cake, and opened gifts. Everyone was gone by about 6 or 6:30.?

  • DD's party started at noon. I chose this time because I figured she'd just be up fresh from a nap and in a good mood.

Yeah, so she napped for 45 minutes and was totally miserable the whole day. She went back down for a nap around 2 and woke up perfectly happy when everyone had left. lol

    Oh well!

  • We started at 1pm and just went with the flow of things. DS took a nap before the party which was nice because he was snoozing and it helped free up some time for me to get things ready.
  • DD's is starting at 11. She usually naps from 9:30-11 and 2:30-4. But honestly, she loves being the center of attention so I think she'll be fine even if she has a crappy morning nap.

  • 1pm - to fit between her naps.

  • 2 p.m. since she naps from about 10:00 to 12:00, however on that particular day, she refused to nap! 2 p.m. also allowed us more time for last minute preparations.

  • 2:00, which should have been right between naps. However, ILs were staying with us so his routine was off and he needed to nap at 2. It actually worked well because we could all eat and chat as adults for awhile and when he woke up and needed to be the center of attention, he was ready to go!
  • DD's party was from 1-3 pm.  She naps well in the am and I wanted her to have had lunch before everything started.  It worked well.
  • Our party is Saturday at 3.  When I planned everything he was napping from 1:30 to 3, but this week he hasn't been going down until 3 and sleeping until 5.  I have no idea what I'm going to do tomorrow.

For timeline, I'm shooting for food and swimming until 4:30, then cake.  Open presents around 5 or 5:30 and hopefully most people will take off around 6 or 6:30.
