Going back to work

So I don't go back to work for another two weeks but it's already giving me anxiety. I haven't left my LO yet and the thought of going back to work makes me almost break down. Any moms out there with some helpful pointers or advice?

Re: Going back to work

  • There is a checkin thread for going back to work and I'm sure there are some helpful tips on there. But I would say that giving yourself extra time in the morning and preparing what you can ahead of time will help relieve some of your anxiety.

  • If you haven't left him yet I would plan to do so a couple times before going back. Go buy some new clothes, get your nails done, or just go get a coffee. It's hard at first, but the anticipation of going back is worse.

  • Everything PP said. Take small a steps away, and enjoy the adult time. It will be harder on you than on LO.
Read the return to work thread, we are all in the same boat and each day it gets easier. GL
  • I agree with PPs, I've left LO with my parents etc since he was a few days old. Even if it was just for an hour for me to have a bath or half a day so I could sleep or clean the house then by the time I went to work for the first day it wasn't too bad. Let you and LO adjust to being apart slowly if you're anxious, good luck.
  • It really isn't so bad once you go back.  You will find that being at work is pretty relaxing compared to taking care of a newborn by yourself all day!  Plus it makes you enjoy getting off of work and weekends so much more!

Try and think of the positives and check out the back to work threads!

Ditto this - give yourself extra time in the morning to get ready, you will be glad you did!

  • I go back in two weeks too and I'm soooo nervous and guilt ridden about leaving him. I'll prob have to take a train so my bf can have the car at home with DS so I'll be away at least 10 hrs a day :-S
I keep pretending like I'll wake up at normal work time so I get used to it but LO will sleep on and off til 11am and every morning I've just gone with it and slept with him. That first day is gonna be rough.
I'd say like pp just get some time by yourself to get used to it. I bet it'll get easier as time goes on..
