I have chronic illness as well and it is esactly the same thing. I feel weird bringing him since I'm just so used to going to docs alone your right this is a different experience. I also can not drive anymore due to my illness and so I have to start getting used to someone coming with me I guess. But thanks for sharing that it really resonates with me!
Hubby comes to all of mine, even when he probably doesn't have to! He works nights and is off by mid-morning, so we schedule afternoon appointments so he can come along. It's our first child, so I think he's just as curious as I am about the whole process.
My husband has came to every planned appointment, I've had a couple unplanned due to bleeding that he was unable to come too. But, I think I'm fine from here on out of just coming to the big ones...like the anatomy scan.
DH works third shift, so he's able to make all appointments and plans to attend every single one of them. I don't really expect him to, but since we're first-timers, he's super excited and refuses to miss. If he worked a different shift, he wouldn't be able to make any.
I already posted on here but wanted to update. DH came to my last appt and literally played with his phone the entire time. It just served to piss me off and I wish he hadn't come. (It was a regular appt but we were going to get to hear the heartbeat so I asked if he wanted to come too.)
That said he is coming to the u/s appt in a couple weeks and if he so much as touches his phone while we're there I'm going to throat punch him.
My DH comes to all appointments and wouldn't think of missing one. It helps because not only do I get to meet all the midwives, but so does he.... and one of them will be in the room with us on the big day. They are getting to know both of us. All the midwives also include him on the questions and make sure he is doing well, too, not just me.... which I love. I also appreciate having him there because he reminds me of things I may forget.
