  • Gah.... I have an hour to wait until it is acceptable to eat lunch. I just want some lunch...

  • I didn't realize how badly this would bother me but it does: no one can tell I'm pregnant :( I was at the grocery store this weekend and an older lady stopped me and said "Excuse me, can I ask you a personal question?  Where did you buy your shirt?  That would look so good on my daughter and she's plus-sized, too!"  Beaming with pride I said, "Oh, I know how hard it is to find plus-sized maternity shirts!  I got this at Old Navy."  To which she responded, "OH!  I didn't realize you were pregnant!  Well, hopefully they'll have something similar in the regular plus-sized section.  Thanks!"

    :((

Hmm…maybe it's her first time out in public?  She doesn't sound like the brightest bulb, so maybe you do look pregnant to others?

Well, considering the look of pure shock on my co-worker's face when I told him I was pregnant a few days ago I'd say no, it's not just her.  I'd erroneously thought maybe my coworker didn't notice because he's a man and men don't notice changes in appearance.  But nope, this lady was surprised too so it must just be me.

C, my family, and friends all see the obvious changes in me but I was sort of hoping for at least *some* attention in public!  Sucks being in your freaking 3rd trimester and people still don't know you're pregnant.  Pooh.

@peeppeeppeep Ugh, that sounds like a PITA.  I mean, I can see it being cute to celebrate there but with no hot water or even tables?  Is there a way you guys can compromise?  That you'd love to partake but maybe each person who attends can bring a dish that's easily warmed up on the grill?

The bitch in me would pass on that in heartbeat because it really doesn't sound like a fun day.  How does your DH feel?
Thanks for reading, Darbie.  My DH also doesn't want to do this and he hates seeing his dad order his mom around - but he feels like if we don't go it will just hurt his mom.  I feel really bad for his mom, but I also have gotten to the point where she frustrates me just as much.  We've offered to bring all sorts of food and drink but have been turned down.  I've thought about becoming sick on Saturday…I think the disorganization and PITA part of this is really representative of the fact that I find their whole dynamic toxic.

But, yeah, I have got to think about how to handle this differently in the future.  We hosted Thanksgiving, which went really well.  I don't think we can host all the holidays, so at some point I have to figure out how to draw some fair boundaries.  If they were my parents, I would be pretty honest about how uncomfortable I am (even more so emotionally than practically) and how it isn't fair for them to put us in these tension-filled situations.  DH definitely agrees that his dad is a bully but feels like it's his job to help his mom as much as possible.

@Skrittens I'm sorry your Uggs don't fit anymore. My Uggs are one of the few boots I can get my feet in. If I can't wear them, I am screwed. I'll be that pregnant lady walking around in 30 degree weather with flip flops on.
That is about to be me. I work in a pretty professional office setting in NYC and walk a few blocks every morning. I am going to have to work from home during snow storms. Currently, I can squeeze my feet into a pair of ugly black tie up shoes. A far cry from my Jimmy Choos I loved to wear and love so very much. Heck - right now I would get excited to wear my Aerosoles comfortably.
I would loooove to own a pair of Jimmy Choos. Hopefully you'll be back in them after baby!

I'm sorry, that does suck.:(  If it's any consolation, I know you're pregnant ;).

I will say that I am just starting to look pregnant in the last couple of weeks because I'm tall.  You really can't tell when I'm bundled up to go outside.  I do like it when my friends and family notice, but I'm kind of glad to be able to go about my business without much attention.  Except for when there are long lines for the bathroom.  Then I start rubbing my belly and hoping someone notices.  This hasn't worked yet.
  • Hugs @wishiwaspreggo. I understand your need to look pregnant. It's always nice for others to notice.

@finallyourturn2‌ that is really scary. I hate that after all your H and your family puts into serving the country now you have to be worried about that.

Afm, I guess I'm thankful my H doesnt have an expensive hobby. He plays his dinosaur of a play station 2 (the same football game) and watches tv. He's big into the newest shows that come on and watching the food network. It pays off in his cooking skills which I like. I feel you guys whose H's play Clash of Clans though because my brother is addicted to that game.

I finally cleaned out the spare room last night and we are going to get our Christmas tree and some nursery paint today. I'm excited! Happy Monday!

  • We need some holiday cheer, stat.  Or just some cheer.  Or just some glitter.  Who can bring it?

  • @wishiwaspreggo My shower isn't until January 31st, so I feel you on the late shower issue.

@racegurl87 I cannot stop looking at your Sven gif. He is my favorite character in Frozen!

I need some help ladies! We have a quincinera to go to on Sunday and the theme is black tie. I need a nice cocktail style dress that will fit my belly. Any suggestions on where I can get one QUICK?

  • @kcbizme, how fun!  I don't know what maternity shopping you have near you, but I would check out consignment stores if you have time.  Otherwise, your best best might be to order some dresses online and try them at home, ideally from a place has free shipping and returns, like Amazon or Zappos.  Depending on the cut and the stretchiness of the material, you might be able to find a non-maternity dress that works.

  • kcbizme do you have a destination maternity near you?  I just wore this to my holiday party and dressed it up with a pashmina, a fun necklace and heels (which were a bad idea to @rquinlin 's point).  It is on clearance now and would be about $60, although unfortunately I paid full price.

  • Re: cocktail dresses. Some non-maternity dresses may still fit, depending on the cut. I just bought this Donna Morgan dress in the long version for a wedding I'm standing in just a few weeks after baby comes and it actually fits perfectly and flatteringly around my belly right now. You could also consider something like this.
  • @peeppeeppeep I hadn't thought of Zappos. I looked on Amazon and didn't see anything I really liked. The problem is, I need it before Sunday, so that gives me less than a week.

@jnowosielski I don't know if we have a Destination Maternity but I will look and see. I'll look online too and hopefully I can find something suitable!

I have a black maxi dress but I feel like it's not dressy enough. If I can't find anything else, I'll have to wear it and just find something super dressy to go over it.
  • For some reason I am stuck in a box. Stupid Bump.

Anyhoo, Happy Birthday @cesquer! I am having my first baby and will turn 40 next year, so I can relate. I keep telling myself, age is just a number, age is just a number. Hope you have a most wonderful birthday!!! :)

  • Happy Birthday @cesquer!
  • Also Happy Birthday @cesquer‌!!
  • Definitely threw up that nasty orange drink. Luckily it was after they had drawn my blood. Unfortunately it was while I was driving home and I had to pull over in a random neighborhood to puke on the side of the ride. Also didn't open the door in time for the first wave and ended up with puke all over my clothes. Yay.

I've been there...except it was all over the waiting room at the clinic and there wasn't a trash can in sight. Sorry it happened to you!

  • Thanks everyone. I feel better now that I'm home and I took a shower, but still feel a bit off. Just wish I would have at least made it home first.

  • @cesquer Happy birthday lady!

@Layfi002 The shortness of breath could be a normal pregnancy thing. At this point everything sort of starts to push up into your chest. It could also be anemia, but combined with the headaches could also could point to pre-e. It's good you contacted your OB because they will have a better answer for you than me. Hope it's nothing.

AFM I'm having another busy week at work. I may or may not try to head out to get some more Christmas shopping done tonight. DH has plans so I'd have to take DD which I'm not sure I have the energy for. I'll decide after work. Trying to decide what I want for lunch because nothing sounds good.

  • @cesquer‌ - happy birthday!!!

I just found out I failed my one hour GTT with a 177. I have to take the 3 hour on Wed. This is so inconvenient for my schedule. Doesn't my body realize I have work commitments - and this is going to cause me to miss out on hours of sleep catching up? Not to mention making me miserable because I won't be able to eat my staples (bagels, burritos, burgers, and fries if I fail the next). I wasn't going to diet for another 11 weeks....

I'm also nervous the dr is going to force me to induce because of my age, weight gain, and now my sugar - even if I do pass the 3 hr.

  • @skrittens - I'm sorry.  Fingers x'd that you do pass the 3 hour.
  • @jennypm sorry you're having a crappy day. Hope it gets better soon! @skrittens fx you pass the three hour and that your doctor doesn't want to induce if you do.

Sorry to drive by, but another extremely busy weekend and now busy, busy work week! I hope everyone is having a good day so far!

I just emailed my Dr.'s nurse because for the last three days I have been feeling a little 'off'...My heart feels like it is racing and short of breath, with a headache. Almost like I have had too much sugar/caffeine, which is def not the case with GD! I am watching every little thing I eat. I have noticed a few more BH the last few days as well. They are not painful and do not last long at all. It may not be related, but I want to make sure it isn't something I need to be concerned about... any thoughts on what might be causing this.
@Layfi002‌ Have you checked your blood sugar when you feel like this? ? My last appointment I was feeling the exact same way and told the doctor about it. They didn't seem to concerned but said it was possible my blood sugar was too low. I'm GD too. Last time this happened to me I checked my blood sugar and it was like 295 (eeeeek) so it was because it was too high for me.
  • @Chunkymonkeylvr‌ hope your sink gets fixed soon! And that your tub doesn't need to be fixed! Sounds like a crappy situation.

I like those comparisons better! It's easier for me to visualize.

  • My sister has been staying with us since she broke up with her boyfriend in October. She is currently downstairs getting drunk with her new friend. The weekend is over sister!!! Let's get your shit together and concentrate on more important things. Like saving money and finding a place to move to!
