Symptoms of ectopic or normal?

I just got a positive test yesterday. I believe i am about 6 weeks pregnant. I have been having a pinching pain on the left side of my groin and and lower back pain on the left side. No bleeding. Just one sided pain. Sometimes I think my left overie hurts. Is this normal? I don't go in to see my midwife until i am 12 weeks. I don't want to wait that long to be seen if there could be a problem.

Re: Symptoms of ectopic or normal?

  • It can be normal. When in doubt call your provider.

  • With ectopic pregnancies there is typically bleeding and/or pretty intense pain.
I do agree with prim that if you have a concern call your healthcare provider.
Sending thoughts and prayers that everything is gone.
  • Could just be round ligament pain which is normal. Once an ectopic gets painful it gets REALLY painful. And as much as they're talked about here, they are pretty rare. Call your nurse line but it's likely nothing to stress about. You probably won't have your first ultrasound for two more weeks, so that's when they'll check the baby's position.
  • Thanks for your responses. I don't even go in for my first appointment for another 4 weeks. I feel like that is a little late. I will be practically through my first trimester, witch is the scariest part. I saw the ob at 8 weeks with my first baby.
  • I read online once that your colon is on the left side, so if you are having any gastro related symptoms that may be why it hurts on the left.

  • I am currently recovering from laparoscopic surgery removing my twins from my left fallopian tube. For 3 weeks the doc had me on bed rest for what I thought was a small amount of pain and a tiny amount of spotting. During surgery the doc found a pool of blood in my pelvic cavity, despite intense monitoring. My advice is if you are worried - get checked out. Get Hcg tests daily to check the rise. I am so lucky to have had the medical care I have had. If I had been at home in Ireland, they would not have done as much for me. Luckily, I am in Sudan. I never thought I would say that in relation to health care. I hope everything works out for you. You are in my prayers.
  • I had a similar experience with symotoms as you and as kathyontop and I am also in recovery from epiotic pregnancy I had twinges in the groin area, lower ab and back mine was all in the right side though. And I also had minimal bleeding and My cramping was minimal at first too they started about a week or so after the twinges. The cramping became severe when I ruptured my tube and internal bleeding started which I didn't even know had happened until surgery when they had to remove my tube. I would try to get in to see your dr sooner just to make sure everything is ok and to ease your mind. I hope everything is ok and you have a healthy pregnancy ahead,
