@caer the only motive that I can think of for Jay would be that Adnan was really close with his girlfriend. Maybe he was jealous and wanted him out of the picture?
I can barely remember what I did yesterday. Though Sarah Koenig did have a point when she said that the cop calling Adnan should have made that day stand out in his mind. I would think especially if he was stoned and worried about a cop calling while he's stoned.
@caer I think lending the car is weird but the cell phone is not. In 1999, it was hard to get a hold of people. Even if Jay had a pager, he might not have been near a phone. So if Adnan really did need Jay to come get him immediately, that would make sense.
@TyrannosaurusLex - yes, yes! That is what bothers me so much. Adnan claims they were casual friends. That was clearly not the case. So why not come clean about that? I feel like there are big pieces of the puzzle missing.
Like Jen - what is her deal? She had to be lying. Possibly covering for Jay? She changes her timeline too.
Like is it because there are hard feelings now? Is it because of what happened that day? Cuz obviously they aren't in cahoots on telling the cops the same story.
I'm dying to know what the DNA evidence will reveal if they do end up testing it. That might have a lot of answers. The only thing they concluded was there was no sperm in her genital area. Ok but that does not mean she wasn't assaulted?! Important?!
And also you don't just leave fibres unexamined, do you? Wtaf??
The forensics people did a crap job. I agree with that. It's another reason I think there was reasonable doubt in this case. Even if I ultimately think he's guilty.
This blog post basically sums up my theory (although I don't agree that Serial is "stupid" obviously):

I can get behind the part about Jay being involved and changing his story to make himself less involved. Though I don't think Adnan would seek him out to help just because he was a drug dealer. I hung around a lot of small-time drug dealers in high school. None of them were murderers or would help with something like that.
So far like TLex, Adnan gives me the creeps... He's too laid back about it all. Mr. S was kind of hilarious, but how did he see her hair? Was he randomly paid by someone in the know to 'find' her body. I tend to believe the conspiracy theories, and maybe this was a small part of a much bigger puzzle. But, I haven't heard all of it yet.
I want Adnan to be innocent, but like many others I can't really figure out what else could've happened. I do agree that if Jay did it, he didn't plan to frame Adnan, it just happened.
@caer but if Asia saw Adnan after school, he wouldn't have had enough time to go meet Hae, kill her and get back for track. Unless he wasn't at track...which no one can remember.
I feel like I need to re-listen to all of the podcasts.
Didn't one of the guys that was with Asia McLean's boyfriend (or possibly the boyfriend himself) say that he couldn't remember if they saw Adnan in the library that day? I feel like if they had seen him, Asia would have talked to her boyfriend and his friend when she wrote those letters, right?
Or back to Jay doing it, what if the Nisha call was at another time and then Jay called her but didn't answer on the day of the murder? Or did they say he just got his cell phone that day, I forgot.
@penguin173 the only motive I can think of for Jay is that he's jealous of Adnan's relationship with Stephanie so he kills Hae and frames Adnan. That's some serious jealousy though.
I made DH listen to the first episode last night and I just asked him if he listened to more and he said: yes, on the way to work, on the way home, before i went to bed, when i woke up, on murphy's 3 mile walk, and 2 more miles on the treadmill!

I realize that this sounds weird - he works overnight, hence the before bed and all.
Apparently, he listened to 7 podcasts in 24 hours.
