Cloth Diapering

Sick kid laundry question

We had a really rough day yesterday. My girly was literally inconsolable for a good hour and a half and the rest of the day she fought sleep, I think because she couldn't get comfortable. She got a total of about an hour of sleep on my chest, then she slept in bed with me last night because she screamed and screamed when we tried to put her down.

They gave her the second antibiotic shot yesterday and we are supposed to be getting the results from her blood and urine cultures today. Her fever seems to be gone but now she has developed a rash on her chest, abdomen, back, and the back of her neck. So we are going back to the ped today instead of just waiting for the results.

I don't know if this is a viral rash or if it could be from the chicken pox vaccine she got at her one year well check on Dec 1.

Anyway, she had some nasty diarrhea yesterday. I am wondering if you guys would do anything different when washing the prefolds and inserts or would you just make sure they are rinsed well before washing? Do I need to bleach them?

Thanks for your support guys, this is one tired mama.

  • I'm sorry you've had a sick kiddo too @stringy813‌. I've been giving Tylenol and Motrin all week because her temp kept rising. We gave her Tylenol last night just before bed. So far her temp has stayed down today and she is napping right now so fx she continues to improve!!

She slept really well in bed with me last night. I think aside from not feeling well she just didn't want to be alone. Once she snuggled up with me she drifted right off. My poor husband had to sleep on the couch and I know he felt bad that she only wanted me but he understood.

I really don't know what a rash from the chicken pox vaccine would look like but the timing is right so I suspect that's what it is. We'll see what the ped says.

I hope your munchkin feels better soon!!

When ds2 had a rash from the cp vax it looked like chicken pox.....just smaller pox than full blown cp and it didn't make him sick....or itchy that we could tell.

  • Well it turns out it's viral. The rash spread today and it's even in her throat, but all the cultures came back negative and the ped said the rash is not a cp rash from the vaccine. So she just has a really nasty virus. Her temp stayed down today and although still out of sorts, she was more peppy today than she has been all week. FX tomorrow is even better.

She had so much diarrhea I finally put her in a disposable. I just can't deal with anymore nasty cloth. :(

I soaked everything that got nasty and ran it through a prewash. It's ready to be washed with all the other cloth. Thanks for all the support and advice. It's been a loooong week!
