TTC after 35

Clomid - side effects?

We started clomid yesterday and are scheduled for our ultrasound and hopefully our first IUI next week. Question about clomid side effects....I am rarely affected by medication however I hear dclomid produces some serious mood swings. Does anyone have any experience with this and is there anything that helped you to combat the mood swings? Thanks for your help.

Re: Clomid - side effects?

  • No experience with clomid but to help with mood swings take fish oil! Also try and get regular exercise since that can really help too.

  • I have not taken clomid either but I wanted to say good luck. You could also ask over on the trouble TTC board.

  • Did you RE give you a list of possible side effects as from my understanding they can be more than just a nuisance. Best wishes
  • As a stalker of SEs (and usually get every single one), I would suggest not learning what every single one was before hand, if you are an anxious sort. I've asked all about the SE of clomid and many people have had bad experiences, and some, no bad effects at all. That's just my unasked for advice!

    Hope you are SE-free!!

  • Good luck next week! I did not experience significant SEs personally, but I agree everyone is different! It changed my 'usual' O date by moving it up a couple days and I had some ovarian discomfort that lasted a very short period of time.
  • What dosage are you on? I have taken clomid twice (50 mg both times) and the only SE that really bothered me or that I noticed was the hot flashes! Hate them, even though they pass quickly! GL.

I got pregnant with my baby girl on my first round of Clomid last time.  I was a bit ragey - but it passed quickly (once meds were done).  The thing I noticed was that I think I felt myself ovulate.  It was ridiculous.  When I had my 6 week ultrasound and my RE said I'd ovulated from the right side, I was all "I know I did, I felt the egg release!"  Okay, maybe not THAT bad, but it was pretty dramatic.  Otherwise, the side effects were minimal.  As I've done more rounds of Femara this time around, I've gotten more side effects - maybe it's a cumulative thing?

OP I took clomid last month for my first IUI, I went to Disney on day 3, felt fine, I did get a raging migraine on day 5 but I took Tylenol and slept for a few hours and was fine. What really got me was the HSG shot, my ovaries hurt and I generally felt discomfort once I ovulated and for the week after IUI. Kinda just felt lazy and tired and too tender to want to exercise at all, so I gained a few lbs also. Good luck!
Edited: p.s. the clomid also caused me to have a 3cm cyst on my left ovary. I'm on BC now for IVF in Jan and they said it should go away....
