Version update :)

Hey ladies, here is my (Canadian) version story for those who were curious. First of all it was a success! They did ultultrasound and doctor said placenta location and the fact that he was Frank breech wasn't overly ideal, but he wanted to give it a whirl. They gave me nitroglycerin to relax my uterus. He tried the first time and was about halfway and all I hear was "shit, the little bastard slipped". We were back at square one. It was the most excruciating pain and I thought in my head that I couldn't do it again. Then he goes again, holds the baby halfway and they do an ultrasound to check HB and everything. And he kept going and voilà, I have a head instead of a bum in my pelvis. It was a little scary afterwards, the nitroglycerin can cause your bp to drop because it also relaxes your blood vessels, so my bp dropped to 60/30 and I thought I was going to pass out. The nurse got a doctor back in the room asap but they pumped me full of fluids and it improved. It was definitely worth the pain! Sorry for the block of writing, I'm on my tablet.

  • Wait. ... My baby is Frank breech too, so can the position really matter when doing a version? Like, is it more difficult to turn a Frank breech baby?

How long was the actual procedure and pain? How did you feel after? Sore?

  • And LOL @ "the little bastard".

  • @LaBellaVida - He said when they are Frank breech the feet can act like little hooks making it harder to turn them. But he did it. The actual manipulation was about 3 minutes or so I'd say, and yes while it hurt more than labor it was quick. And that's just me. Also, depending on your hospital, their protocol will probably be different and they might have different meds and pain relief options. So don't let my experience scare you. It was definitely worth it. My belly along the bottom feels a little tender and bruised and I'm a bit crampy, but nothing major.
  • sounds like a less than pleasant experience...i'm so glad it worked!  *FX* he stays that way now!

    Did you have pain relief?

Can this cause you to go into labor at all?

How did your lo tolerate it? I'm assuming good.

Thanks for sharing your experience, and so glad it was successful for you!

  • Thanks for sharing a successful version story!  We might be looking at this as an option, depending on what my 36w appointment tells us...  As of 34w, this one was still breech, but they weren't going to start worrying until 36, so this was a great share.

Sorry it was so painful, though.  :(
