Any RSV or nebulizer tips for a baby?

We go a RSV DX this morning and are on alternating neb treatments every 2 hours, the baby haven't them screaming the whole time and then taking another 30min to settle once we finish. I know I used to have tricks to make it easier, but now that I have a 2 year old who will happily plop down with a book or iPad and do her treatments I can't remember how we got thru them in the beginning.

Any tips or tricks?

They always told us that the screaming helped her inhale more. I know it sucks. I always tried to rub her leg, back, stomach, whatever I could to try to calm her down.

I don't have any tips, but I do commiserate. Cameron got the dx this afternoon on top of an ear infection. I hope your LO feels better quickly.

I'm sorry, get well soon C!

I know the fits won't do her any harm, I'm more worried that DD2 will decide that she should be throwing a fit for nebs as well.

  • I would put the mask on & then put DD over my shoulder & rock her, when she was teeny tiny.

Then around 6 months old, I'd put her on the couch & crank up the Chica Show b/c she loved Chica. I would hold the mask in front of her face while she zoned out at the tv.

Then a little older still, I'd let her hold something she wasn't allowed to have normally, like the remote or my phone & again, let her watch tv.

Another thing that worked was switching out the mask for the mouth piece & letting her chew on it when she was teething.

These are all great suggestions. Winn would never wear the mask. We just held the piece without the mask a certain distance from her face like they showed us in the hospital. That's what we still do even now, but add in TV.
