Success after IF

Sleep question

Isn't that always the case?

So whenever we put E down for a nap or bedtime? She will lie in her crib for up to an hour just singing, talking to herself, and playing with her teddy bear.

I'm all for just leaving her and not worrying about it as long as she isn't crying. But when she wants to play for an hour then sleep for 2 hours, it really takes a huge chunk out of the day.

Should I try going in there and telling her to be quiet or stop playing or go to bed? Or just leave her? Or what? What would you do?

(I realize in the realm of sleep issues, this is nothing. I'm not complaining whatsoever and I feel so lucky that she is such a good sleeper now. I'm just not sure how to approach this issue.)

Re: Sleep question

  • Does she go right to sleep at bedtime? We started dropping nap with DD around 2.5 because she would do that at nap and bedtime. I didn't want to move bedtime back because I needed them in bed at 7pm so I could get a break (DH doesn't get home until 9:30-10pm). First we skipped nap once a week and now at almost 3, she naps once a week on Sundays.

Hearing stop nap probably sounds like the worst thing ever but I am guessing she has gotten to the point of needing a little less sleep so you probably need to tweek her schedule a bit somewhere whether it's bedtime or nap etc.

  • It really depends on the day @jesselayne8‌. I don't know why the thought never occurred to me. But yeah, she probably does that when she isn't tired. Duh. I can't sleep when I'm not tired.
She has mostly cut back from a 2 hr nap to 1.5 unless she's really tired. I'll start paying more attention to how much sleep she is getting instead of the clock. That seems so obvious.

  • I think you are putting her down too early maybe wait until she is rubbing her eyes or says she needs a nap. Also she may just not need as many naps.

  • I honestly wouldn't change anything. DS does this as well during nap or night. Sometimes he ends up not nappy or taking a long time to go down but he is the same just sitting there playing or reading a book in their room. I figured if it's not broke don't fix it. IF she isn't crying then she is okay and will sleep when ready. And if you just have to run those days then sometimes her nap will get cut short although I know with mine it can create a unhappy monster without a good nap. But sometimes you just can't help it.  Shoot soon enough all naps will stop!!! Still have no clue what that exactly happens.
