My boobs kill..

I posted a few days ago about weaning DS.  The first 30 hours went way better than expected but then I woke up in the middle of the night super engorged and leaking. I had to pump for a couple minutes but still was in a lot of pain.  I have talked to my LC and my dr and am doing everything they have suggested.  It's better than it's been but they are still so full and sore...I planned to take a little longer weaning but DS was doing so well..and I was down to only two times a day. Seriously these boobs could produce enough milk for an entire village!

When will it end!

  • Sounds rough. If you are comfortable with it, you could try sudafed.

I had to wean slowly. Go as long as you can without pumping, and when the pain is unbearable, pump. But only pump long enough to get relief from the engorgement. Then continue on with this same pattern and over a week or so, you'll dry up.
This exactly. If you are serious about weaning now, only pump when absolutely necessary. If you pump for too long, you'll just stimulate more milk production. I also second the Sudafed option.

  • I did take some antihistamines Sunday and Monday. Today it hurts a bit but is bearable.  I don't think I'm producing new milk but they are both still soo full.  I have a hard time imagining this is healthy at all..milk just sitting in them..but I know if I pump, it'll just continue producing..it's hard to imagine them emptying on their own.

  • If you are really full, I'd at least hand express. Mastitis is terrible.
