Reflux Updates

Where we at on reflux ladies?

I thought dd woukd magically outgrow hers at 4 months... Nope! Forgot her Prevacid the other day and it was a nightmare.

I did start giving her cereal from the spoon and it's helped with the spitting up. I only give her a bit and always after a bottle feeding as that should be the main nutrition.

I'd like to think someday she's going to grow out of this and won't need 3 outfit changes a day?

Re: Reflux Updates

  • I read online the other day aloe vera juice is suppose to help with reflux.I'm going to try it on my DD and see how it works I hate her having to take prevacid at such a small age.My DD gets formula with cereal and still spits up a lot but is gaining a great amount of weight and she eats 1 jar of food a day and so far all foods have been ok nothing has caused any horrible flare ups.Her problem is she spits up a lot of the clear acid stuff.I will keep you posted if I notice a changed with the aloe vera juice.

  • We have been adding a tbsp of cereal to a few of DD bottles each day. That has helped a lot with the reflux and puking.

She still takes Zantac three times a day, and it does help. We've tried to take one away and it has caused far more problems, so for now, we'll stay on it.

  • We were hoping the magic of 4 mos would make our LO better. unfortunately still having issues. We tried a couple days with out the zantac and it didn't go well. we are also doing cereal.
  • My LO is still on 1.5 ml Zantac 2x a day. We tried not giving it to him yesterday and it didn't go well. Haven't started any solids yet. His pedi recommended starting them at 5 months which is in two weeks. I hope it helps with the spitting up. We go through bibs and outfits like crazy!

Our pedi also suggests five months but they also told me nothing was wrong with her in the beginning. They also told me not to switch her to soy, and that's really helped too.

I will say tgat the dr. Said not to stop and meds because they have be weaned off. That I never thought of.

Hopefully when they turn 6 months we'd will have better luck!

  • Still giving LO .9 of Zantac twice a day. Not spitting up hardly at all. Still EBF and haven't started solids yet either. LO will be 5 months in 11 days. I've begun slowly to eat normally again especially after reading kellymom about not having to limit my foods for reflux.

  • DD will be 5 months in 12 days. She spits up all day long. It actually seems to be getting worse, if that's possible. We have switched to formula over the last month and it's made no difference.

  • DD still has terrible reflux and she's 5 1/2 months almost. Thank goodness for Prevacid! We've also been doing the usual tricks like elevating the end of the crib and I do think the little things help. Last week DD was sick for the first time and it was terrible- she had a cough and with the reflux making her spit up easily anyways, she'd cough so hard she'd gag and then throw up. We were going through like 4 onesies a day, easy!
Here's to hoping 6 months makes the difference!
  • Like a few other moms here, I was hoping for improvement with her reflux.
At 5 months, I still notice discomfort with her when I have missed a dose.
She's still on .8 ml of Zantac, 3 times a day, but I do not wake her in the middle of the night to give her a dose.
If I miss the evening dose she often wakes up fussing in discomfort.
She's eating cereal once or twice a day and this seems to make no difference.
She's never had a big issue with spitting up her formula, but a clear drool that smells acidy and she tries to swallow it back down, pretty sure it's silent reflux.
  • LO is on 1.5ml twice a day. We upped her dosage from 1ml 2x at her 4 month appt and it has made a huge difference. I forgot her morning dose one day last week and it wasn't a fun evening, so probably no signs of stopping anytime soon. Not much spitting up, which is good. She just does the screaming/arching back silent reflux thing. I wanted to start some real food with her this week but we have to make an unexpected trip to see family, so will have to wait until I'm back in down so DH can be there for all of that. (She just turned 5 months last week).

  • DS is still on 1.25ml of Axid 2x per day, and we have to give him 4-5 tsp of rice cereal in his bottles of Nutramigen, for MSPI which I was also hoping he might outgrow.  The spit up is insane.  I haven't seen any improvement, even with the rice cereal.

The other day I tried one scoop of gentlease in his normal bottle and he was really uncomfortable for the rest of the day.  Poor guy.  I haven't even started with solids because I have no idea what other allergies/sensitivities he may have.  His 4 mo appt is tomorrow (at 4.5 months) so I plan to ask his pedi what he suggests.

DD was on zantac 2x per day until she was 1.

  • So I asked my pedi to up the dose of Zantac and he said no that he'd prefer me to give her cereal. So I gave her a little bit of oatmeal tonight. She loved it. I hope it helps.

  • @kam3100‌, did it seem to help your LO at all? Also, how old is she? Sorry, I'm mobile.
So far it seems like it. I mixed the baby oatmeal in 2 ounces of breast milk. I spoon fed her half. She ate it like I had never fed her before haha.  Then I gave the rest in a bottle because I didn't want to waste the breast milk.  She slept 2.5 hours longer than she usually does before her first wake up.  So far today I haven't noticed any spit up. I have to see how the rest of the day goes, but so far so good.  I did put a little bit of oatmeal with 1 ounce of breast milk this morning too.

  • We have been doing rice cereal for since 3.5 mos. pedi said no sooner. helps a little. still need the zantac. LO loves it and is eating great from and spoon. We r 4.5 months now. started the spoon at 4 mos. and just added it to the formula the first 2 weeks. 4 ounces formula to 1 tablespoon rice cereal.
  • Ugh, DD still has a cough and I can def tell the acid reflux is just making it worse. She gags when she coughs and what comes out isn't formula- just a mix of acidy, sour mucus. It's breaking my heart! Saw the doc and we are going to switch from Gentlease to Nutramigen and see how she does.
  • Those giving cereal via spoon, how thick is the cereal? Every time I attempt to make it according to the directions, it's very watery. So watery that I just ended up giving it to her in a bottle. I've been mixing it with breastmilk.

  • I use 1 ounce formula with 1 tablespoon cereal. it's not very thick. a little like a squash soup. runny but can still stay on the spoon.

Yes keep it watery to start. Those directions seem right. It's a whole new process for baby and it needs to be super thin.

I always skip rice and go to oatmeal. If you Google you can get details on each:)
