short nap suggestions?

DS's naps have been getting shorter and shorter for the past 3 weeks (plus he is waking earlier in the morning - by almost an hour). He was doing at least 2 hours a day and not unusual to do 2.5. Now he is doing 4 or so days in a row of about an hour and fifteen or so, and then crashes for a 3.5 hour nap once a week or so.

He is crabby-pants, though,. and definitely needs more sleep. I try leaving him in his crib for "quiet time" after he wakes, but he is crying a nd yelling "mommy" the whole time (same as when he wakes in the morning).

Any suggestions? His nap is from 1-3 right now and he is 20 months. Do most kids start sleeping less then? God I hope not, he is such a bear without sleep, and man I need the break during the day.

Re: short nap suggestions?

  • No suggestions, but plenty of sympathy. K is doing the same thing, minus the early wake up (she's been sleeping until closer to 8 am).  She will do the quiet playtime thing in her crib, though.  Do you leave anything in there for him to play with?  K has all of her babies, stuffed dogs, etc and she plays/talks to them for a while every afternoon.  Is he tired earlier than 1 pm?  K sleeps less if I put her down later.
