Transitioning to crib

Anyone who isn't using a crib or bassinet thinking about making the transition? Now that DD is becoming more noise sensitive while sleeping, I'd really like her in her crib for naps and nighttime. She's been in the RNP until now but I don't feel I can leave her in her room in it. But...she doesn't settle well in the crib. Anyone else?

Re: Transitioning to crib

  • The first 2 weeks DD slept in her crib at night for 2hrs stretches from 9p-2a. Then she went in her bouncer chair in our room for the rest bc I was exhausted getting up with her every hour. This week she won't stay asleep for more than 10min unless she's on me. I'm not freaking out about this until after thanksgiving. I figure that gives us about 2.5weeks to get through the 6week growth spurt and put a schedule together before I go back to work.

  • We're trying out the PnP in our room tonight to see if he'll sleep on a flat surface. He's been in the RnP up until now. If he does well in the PnP we plan to transition him over. I just get so nervous having him out of our room with his reflux. I want to make sure he can handle laying flat before I let him go in the crib.

  • With DS1 he was in the bouncer until we got him on zantac for reflux. At that point, about five to six weeks, we moved him to the crib with the head elevated. The thing that made the biggest difference was swaddling. If he wasn't swaddled, he wouldn't sleep. Also, putting him down slow was key. I never took both hands off him right away because he'd wake up instantly.

  • LOs been in the PnP at night in our room. She naps in swing, RnP, or our arms. We've been trying to get her to nap in the crib to help transition but she doesn't last more than 5 mins. :(

  • My advice: do it sooner rather than later. With ds1 dh was too worried to put him in his crib because he would get his legs stuck between the slats. He ended up staying in a pnp in our room until he was 18 mos. It was ridiculous.

This time dh is afraid the cats might suffocate ds2 8-} so he wants him in our room for now. This battle isn't over. I will win!
  • We've had one 3hr stretch of sleep in the crib.

I need to work on it more, but it's hard to sacrifice sleep with a kid who fights it terribly.

LO is in her PNP in our room and sleeps well there, but thinking about switching her to the crib in her room sometime in the next few weeks. She naps everywhere...when she decides to nap... Question (sorry for hijacking): for those of you who have BTDT, did you try putting the PNP/bassinet in baby's room first as a transition? LO is just getting to the point where she will go to sleep on her own in the PNP. I'm wondering if we should try her in her own room but still in the PNP and then transition to the crib, or if we should just go to her room/her crib cold turkey.
First, that's pretty amazing that she will put herself to sleep in her PNP!!!  That's awesome.  Of course, I'm the OP, but if I were you, I'd put the PNP in her room just to get her used to different sounds/light in a familiar place to sleep.

We started the transition today (5 wks tomorrow). We put him in for a couple naps during the day, unswaddled...didn't last long. One nap swaddled, went great. So at bed time we put him in a Halo sleep sack Swaddler thing, and a rolled up towel under the crib sheet in the shape of a U to hug his body (going no higher than his armpits). We just finished the first block of sleep, and it was his normal 5.5 hours! Hopefully it wasn't a fluke, but I'd say our transition is going smoothly!
    Wow!  That's awesome...and I'm totally jealous!

  • I have an irrational fear of transitioning her into the crib. DH is upset bc we are moving in Feb. so he is wondering why we even set it up.

I need to get my hormones in check bc thinking about it makes me cry.

  • We tried the PnP last night and he did great! I put him in there drowsy but still awake at 9 and he put himself right to sleep and slept til 2. He woke up for a 10 minute feed and then slept again until 630! Hopefully this will last

And last night we learned that he's not quite ready for a full night in the crib. After that first 5.5 hr block, he was up every hour instead of every 3 like usual. By the 3rd time I finally caved and put him back in his bassinet. Momma needed sleep...
So...just curious and wanting to learn from those who have gone before...will you try for hte big block in the crib again or go back to bassinet?  After a LOUSY night last night in the RNP, no less, Im thinking something has to change because all-around this just isn't working well for us!
