My husbands step mom is determined to buy my daughter a train set for Christmas. She plays with the one at playgroup a bit so I figure she might use it.
Who has a recommendation?
I was thinking

but then there's this one

Are train tables worth the space they take up? I figure it will get used for years since we plan to have more kids.
Thanks Mama's!
Re: Train Sets
I'm a train buff and here's my take. We have a train table because at Lo's age he likes that height and walking around banging the cars on it. In reality though G and Liam (3 & 4) build most of their complex tracks on the ground next to it. I think the table is worth it but I have 3 boys around most of the time so I guess it depends on their interest (mine: HIGH!)
The sets themselves are worth investing in. Wooden tracks are all interchangeable (I think. I don't know a brand of wooden track that doesn't work with our current stuff). Brio and Thomas are the best quality. I have had the cheaper track pieces break if they weren't those brands. I prefer almost all the accessories to be wooden too (bridges, tunnels, bridge supports) because ALL of my plastic accessories have gotten stepped on and cracked. And stepping on wooden still hurts like a bitch, but the piece won't break!
I like your second table. That's the size we have. Any smaller would be kind of useless for us. And I like no drawers underneath and would rather bins. It's not like anyone is putting them away besides me and then I can carry a bin around the house to collect rogue tenders and not have to pull the whole drawer out.
