LO due in two weeks! Seeking stash opinons

Yet another stash critique, plus a few questions for you all. Thanks in advance!!! (** apologies for the length of this post…didn't realize how long it was on screen!)

LO is coming soon (or soonish). I’ve spent a LOT of time lurking on here, posted once or twice and have chosen diapers that seem well-regarded on this board (basically, I trust your opinions:).  But let me know if I’m missing something, especially accessory wise. Or if there's a brand of diaper you love that I don't have and should try. I chose mostly pre-folds because my main concern with CDing is washing (it seems like that is the biggest source of problems/frustrations?) and I figured flats and pre-folds would be easiest to wash and budget friendly is a plus.

This is my nb stash:

24 GMD nb prefolds

12 GMD flats

4 nb GMD workhorses (thought of adding some kissaluv fitteds for comparison, but not sure I need them?)

3 snappis

2 nb blueberry simplex

2 nb rumparooz covers

1 bummis superbrite cover (super small and I meant to return because LO will likely not be particularly small, but DH cut of the tags and washed it)

1 bummis super whisper wrap

1 thirsties duo size one

1 blueberry Capri cover

2 GMD doublers, just for kicks

Grandma el’s diaper cream

24 cloth wipes (I’m planning to make some of my own this week)

Kissaluvs diaper potion

1 planet wise pail liner

1 kanga medium wet bag

1 small wetbag (for diaper bag)

a sprayer thing for the toilet

What am I missing from here? Do I need more wet bags? I’m not sure how the set up will work...where to keep the pail and wet bag, but I guess we’ll figure it out!

Also, a friend of mine gave me a stash of 16 BG pockets (for after nb period), but they are pretty old. She used them on her daughter, who is now 5, and loaned them to another friend, so these dipes have been through 2 kids, at least. They are in decent shape. The aplix isn’t pretty but it works. Should I try to replace it?

Thanks again!

  • Snappi or something to close the prefolds?

  • @nvywife Yes, I have a pack of snappis forgot to include that on the list.

@lbs2012 I was thinking the pail could go near the changing area, just as you described. I'm not sure when you start spraying the diapers. So would I need to have a setup in the bathroom for post-sprayed diapers? Do I really expect to spray it immediately after a change, or all at once before it goes into the laundry?

I got the extra large wet bag for MOTN changes which I expect will happen in or near the bed since LO will be next to us in his/her basket or rock-n-play. Does that sound like a good plan?

  • You need an extra pail or bag to use while one is washing, then. Also you don't start spraying diapers until after you introduce solids.

Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
    It all revolves around you.
  • Yes definitely get another pail liner and a second small wetbag.

As far as spraying goes a lot of people use med wetbag in the bathroom to hold the sprayed diapers so they aren't carrying a dripping wet diaper from bathroom to nuresery. I think by the time you start spraying (usually 5-8 months when they are eating enough solids to change their poop) you likely won't be doing MOTN diaper changes. So you can use your med wetbag for that and maybe get a second if you find you need it.

I like to spray as close to the time I changed the diaper as I can because it's easier than it would be after sitting for a day or two. Plus who wants to stick their hand in a wetbag of dirty diapers to fish out the poopy ones? I'd much rather spray early and then just dump the wetbag in my washer on wash day.

I have two stash recommendations. First, consider getting another cover or two. 6 will probably be good enough, but 7 or 8 is better. EEspecially if your LO is bigger and outgrows the super Brite quickly. Second there's a chance your NB prefolds will be outgrown before the BGs fit, especially if the elastic is stretched out at all. Maybe think about some small prefolds or maybe something like a Kawaii Pure and Natural or AppleCheeks size 1 that will work earlier than OS but last longer than NB/small.

  • For the spraying set up, I use a cheap little bucket that I got at the pharmacy for $1- I think it's supposed to be a barf bucket- and keep it next to the changing table in the baby's room. Then I can bring it down to the bathroom, spray, bring it back and dump it in the diaper pail without dripping. Our bathroom is too small to put a changing station in there, and I like having the diaper pail in arms reach of the changing table so that wet diapers can just go right in. It's worked for us so far. I always spray them off right away.

I agree about extra wet bags- sometimes they take a long time to dry.

  • You could also have something on hand for diaper rash...I use Grandma Elm's
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • Great suggestions. Thanks!
