Any OB who does not recommend a flu shot during pregnancy is practicing outside established guidelines of the ACOG (American college of ob/gyn). While guidelines are just guidelines and not a law, most doctors generally follow guidelines when there is such a preponderance of evidence in their favor. Ultimately what you do is your choice of course but if your doctor does not recommend a flu shot, they are flat out wrong.
Edited because my first link didn't work
I will have to speak to my doctors. I grew up never having the flu. I work in a school and it was offered and so many people suggested I get one so I did. That year I got a bad case of the flu. Since then I never got a flu shot again and I've never had the flu again either. If my doc tells me to do so then I will. But I'm torn because of my history with it.
The flu shot only covers 3-4 strains of influenza every year, there are sometimes other strains circulating depending on the year plus tons of other viruses that can cause an identical illness that the vaccine does not cover. Like PP said I think it was purely a coincidence that you got sick that year. If you work around kids I would definitely get a shot!

This is partially why I don't get it, my mother made me get it religiously growing up and I was always sick afterwards and since I haven't gotten them as an adult (over 12 years now) and take other precautions during flu season I never get sick. Do what your comfortable with the doctor will most likely recommend it.. They have to but if you don't want it don't get it. This may seem like coincidences but it happens to a lot of people I think some people's bodies just don't take the shot as well. ie: getting sick after
Sick does not equal flu. So no, getting the flu did not get you sick when you were younger. The only way to know that you got the flu, is to be tested for the flu.

Everyone knows their body best and if something makes you ill (flu or not) it's probably a good idea to avoid it, especially when pregnant. I would say being sick the next day after the shot years in a row I can safely assume it was the shot that made me sick. Doesn't happen to everyone but it does happen believe it or not. Not in the mood to argue I was just sharing my experience.
Aren't you just a speshul snowflake across the board? Nothing applies to you and everything is different for you. I'm having a hard time believing all this.
Re: Flu Shot
So I feel OK that I got it today.
