She's not getting a flu shot. Most people will listen to their trained medical providers and not a random person online. This thread was started to ease my fears about which trimester to do this in.
Actually many diseases were declining before vaccines were around and countries that didn't take to the vaccines right away (for safety) had the same diseases declining as well. As I said before clean water, better healthcare and sanitation are to thank. Many outbreaks were caused by the viruses in the vaccines themselves. So really your efforts are applauded but vaccines just aren't for me. I can site crap all night but it won't change a single persons mind. But do know that most anti vax people aren't just following something blindly or making decisions based on what they read on Wikipedia. Everyone takes their and their families lives into consideration when making these choices.
Really, the flu vaccine (shot, not mist) is not a live vaccine so there is no way an outbreak was caused by the "virus in the vaccine itself." Same for the pertussis vaccine (which isn't a virus anyway). Or tetanus. Or hepatitis A or B. You can argue that sanitation helped with some diseases like polio and yellow fever but it had nothing to do with the near eradication of varicella in the United States. Or decrease in serious infections in children from haemophilus influenzae type B. And these diseases aren't all benign. Diarrheal disease is probably the leading infectious cause of death in children worldwide. >20,000 people die annually from influenza. The rates of hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer) in the United States from undiagnosed hepatitis B are lower than in other countries that don't routinely vaccinate for hepatitis B. So yeah, vaccines aren't perfect or 100% safe, nothing ever is. But having seen firsthand the devastation that can occur from many vaccine-preventable diseases, I choose to protect myself and my family.
And FWIW, I AM an MD and I do vaccinate my family to include flu shots. There is no secret plot or conspiracy to vaccinate people. I don't make a single penny more by recommending vaccines...in fact it would be more profitable to let people get these horrible diseases so I'd have more business...
I never wanted to argue, I simply gave my opinion and you told me to not be "selfish" and get the flu shot. I don't believe in them and you do just as some believe and swear by Jesus and others don't. It's a personal decision.
I'd agree with your personal decision if you weren't potentially causing harm by it. This isn't the same as religion. Also that study you posted is over 10 years old and the scientific community considers it invalid. Just do some research. Vaccinations save lives.
I guarantee I have done more research than those who blindly hand up their newborns for hepb vaccines.
If you could just admit there is risk and stop pretending it's some Miracle cure. Majority of the diseases that are basically gone were declining before vaccines were even around thanks to clean water and sanitation etc. It's common sense. Until someone you love is harmed by a vax then you might realize oh wow these aren'tfull proofand completely safe.
Nothing else to add other than I totally agree with everyone else, vaccines save lives...

@Madelinega I was aware that SIDS rates were lower in Japan than elsewhere in the world. I was also well aware that they introduced vaccines at a later date for children. Had it ever crossed your mind however, that one of the reasons that SIDS might be lower in Japan could be that they co-sleep, or breastfeed more? Both of those are known to decrease the risk of SIDS.
The correlation between our Vax schedule and SIDS rates is a correlation, not a causation. Other factors including lifestyle choices, possibly less co-sleeping and who knows what else may be to blame. To finger point and say that vaccinating is causing the increase in SIDS is not necessarily correct. There is a massive difference between correlation and causation.
I hope that quenches your fire about no-one responding to your comments regarding your SIDS "information".
I've been handing out love tits because I literally cannot even engage with the insanity in this thread. It makes me too angry. Thanks for holding it down to all of the reasonable and well-informed J15 ladies.
All the other ones drinking the Jenny McCarthy kool aid can stay away from my future kids, thanks.
Ditto. ALL THE LOVETITS were given. I refuse to engage in one of many vax arguments with one of many trolls we'll have.
Off course it's gibberish because you don't personally believe it. I will never not say what is true, just because the cdc says it's safe it's safe right? Even tho like I said SIDS IS LISTED AS A SIDE EFFECT. There no use telling you people anything you will always refute it always says it's old yada yada cause it's too much for your brains to handle that what you think is saving you is making you sick and will do the very same to your children. But really best of luck to you with all that.
This coming from the chick who willingly took vicodin. Ever looked up the possible side effects of that before putting it in your body? You know, seizures, respiratory depression, hearing impairment. But you argue the flu shot.
I'm out. There's no reasoning with this mess. And my kid is healthy as shit, do not bring him into this. As a matter of fact, I have an amazing immune system as well. /anecdote

Oh no I don't argue to flu shot I argue every shot. And taking medication for pain I've had for almost a decade NOT will pregnant is completely different than sticking several needles in a new born baby who has zero immunity. But again thanks for playing. Incase you didn't notice I will not vaccinate me or my family so you can probably stop any time now. Everyone, really. We get it ur pro im anti.. Is there a point?
A baby having zero immunity is a reason why you vaccinate, not why you don't.
Re: Flu Shot
I know it's not that extreme but that's what this logic sounds like to me.
Goodnight.

I got my flu shot before my BFP this time around, but I would have run not walked to get it if I hadn't. I also got it during my first pregnancy.
