Short Cervix, Possible Infection, Hospitalized...

So yesterday I went in for my 20 week ultrasound, the baby was healthy 12ounces, 152bpm, everything looked fine. When they did the internal exam in showed that I have a short cervix 1cm when it should be about 3-4, and they found some "sludge" like substance, and also white specks in the amniotic fluid. I have been in the hospital since noon yesterday and last night they gave me progesterone pills that were inserted vaginally. They are considering putting in a stitch so I don't go into labour soon, but they are concerned that this "sludge" and these white specks may be a sign of infection, so I have a specialist coming in at about 4 today to discuss further with me, but I am just very scared that I could lose my baby girl... So my question is has anyone personally gone through this, or knows of someone who has? Because I am absolutely terrified that my little girl might not make it... :(

I do know another woman who experienced something similar.  I'm so sorry you're going through this and am hoping everything works out okay with you and the baby.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

I'm currently 21 weeks and found out about the "sludge" aka possible infection or debris in my amniotic fluid last week at my 20 weeks app and was sent on bed rest to prevent my cervix from shortening like it did last pregnancy. Sooo stressed cause I'll only see my doctor the 12th so praying nothing bad happens . I did bed rest from week 14-37 with my daughter so know the routine unfortunately but know it's harder cause my daughter is home and not in daycare so my mom comes everyday to watch her. It's hard to not help out or be a mom cause mom stuck on this couch. How u jol

    **loss mentioned**

I had sludge during this pregnancy and a shortening cervix (at 17 weeks).  My OB consulted an MFM and they put me on a z-pack.  Apparently, a z-pack does wonders for sludge... I went back 7 days later and the sludge was gone and my cervix was back to its original length. I was scared of an infection (I lost my twin boys to chorioaminonitis), but my OB assured me that sludge is not necessarily indicative of infection.  They were right.  I wish you the best... hang in there!

Thank you so much for the info. I hope you make it well past your target date with this pregnancy! However having little milestones does make it easier!
