Re: Tuesday Spam, yo!

  • @musicgirl524, @alygohome, @kefttsc, @BeckyP005, and @mrdcle - thanks for the good wishes

Amazingly, the client stood me and my colleagues up today! Somehow they got the time wrong and were 1 hour late. Since we only had the facilities booked for 90 minutes, it was a very short meeting in the end. Totally anti-climatic! But over, regardless.

My car is in the shop and ready to be picked up. Hubs told me he'd be home between 5:30 and 6 so we can get it. It's 6:15 and he's still not home. The place closes at 7 AND I had a phone date with my BF to chat at 6:30 and we haven't talked in almost 2 months. I'm not a happy pregnant lady right now. Worst bit is- he's at the gym. Probably staying late doing extra stretching or workouts after his crossfit class ended. His phone is sitting here at home. SO ticked off right now.

  • I am trying to cook dinner and I keep feeling dizzy and nauseous. This sucks I just want to finish. I have not had this happen yet. Any ideas how to make it go away so I can continue cooking?
  • I have no advice @Paleomama‌ but I'm in the same boat. I made lovely pork chops, creamed spinach and Mac and cheese for dinner. I are the heck out of the spinach and Mac and cheese, but took one bite of pork chop and literally spit it out on my plate. Lady-like huh.

That sucks! My dh is finishing the brussle sprouts and bacon for me but I don't know if I will get to the mashed potatoes. We are also having meatloaf. I was feeling fine the all of a sudden I started feeling sick to my stomach and then I started feeling dizzy. When I get up and stand up for a few minutes the feeling comes back. I just hate when my body won't let me do things. Now I am not really hungry anymore either. :( your meal sounds amazing!!!

  • K LIVES for breakfast for dinner. He is an amazing cook & makes the best food. I wasn't feeling waffles, so I told him I didn't want any. Thoughtfully, he made me an extra waffle anyway, and it's now sitting in my tummy. :)

@kefttsc‌ I've only had creamed spinach once last winter and was kind of obsessed with it is it easy to make??

It think it super easy to make and I'm someone who taught myself to cook because my mom was not a cool at all!

  • @foxslaw so jealous! FI isn't a breakfast dude but he plays basketball Tuesday nights so I made hash browns and eggs with a big glass of orange juice :) though if K made me an extra waffle that would be ok too..
What is the acceptable amount of time to wait between dinner and ice cream?

I would skip the wait & put ice cream directly on my waffle. :)

I will not sure what is going on. Probably stupid pregnancy hormones. Dh is making the rest of dinner for me. I will make my mashed potatoes tomorrow. We are going to have brussle sprouts, salad, meatloaf and butter & Parmesan quinoa. I am just going to take it easy the rest of the night.
  • @foxslaw‌ I love breakfast for dinner. Isn't nice when our men cook for us.

  • I figure I'll potentially eeyore the spam thread versus ruining the entire vibe of the late night thread.

My sister emailed us the doctor's note about the findings of my mom's angiogram. Can the medical folks translate this for me?

Grandma Chicken is found to have a submissive pulmonary embolus with near total occlusion of the right middle and lower lobar arteries as well as intraluminal defect  in the left lower lobar segments. Because of her persistent need for oxygen as well as at the marked evidence of RV overloaded by echocardiography, we felt that thrombolysis was the best option. The catheter was  place, and the plan is that she will undergo tPA infusion overnight with a planned relook angiogram in the morning.
@ChickenOnSunday‌ I have no idea personally, but my husband's dad is a cardiologist and thus my husband knows a lot about the various terms. Let me check with him when he's home soon.

I feel like a lot of people have seen the return of some 1st trimester symptoms, no? I hope you ladies all feel better soon!!

Mine has also returned: not nausea, but exhaustion. I took a FOUR-hour nap on Saturday, slept 10 hours on Saturday night/Sunday morning, and just laid down "briefly" after lunch today... and woke up two and a half hours later. I don't even feel that rested! :(

    Guess I'm working tonight...

@chickenonsunday I'm no cardiologist but that's an almost complete blockage (occlusion) of one of the main arteries that leads to your mom's left lung, which would explain why she has a constant need for oxygen. I don't know what RV overload is but thrombolysis is an attempt to break up the clots using drugs (I assume blood thinners but don't know for sure). Then they'll retest her in the morning with dye they inject to see if the arteries have cleared at all.

Keep us posted, big hugs for all of you!

eta: Oh I totally cheated, so the drug they're giving her is tPA (wasn't sure what that was) which is "tissue plasminogen activator"--per the internet it's a protein that helps to break down the clots by an enzymatic process, most often administered via catheter to people with clots where your mom's is.

So this is almost exactly what my husband said. There is a full blockage, they plan on using drugs to try to break down the clot instead of invasive surgery. Then they are doing the angiogram in the morning to look at the blockage again to see if the drugs worked.

  • @Chickenonsunday

tPA is med to breakdown/dissolve the clot in her lungs- attempting a medical approach before moving to surgical.  Or at least, tPA shrinks the clot prior to any surgical removal.  RV = right ventricular overload.  The RV is pushing against a high pressure to get blood to the lungs and possible risk of overworking --> contractility failure.

  • @ChickenonSunday if she has a massive PE it is impressive she is alive at all to be honest with you. That is a miracle. Everyone with something bad in their lungs has right heart problems. If you fix the lung problem you fix the right heart problem. The lung issue is your real issue right now, not the heart thing (I know the heart thing sounds scarier).

The tPA is the right decision if there are no contraindications. There are some catheter-directed (local delivery of tPA) methods that are safer and more effective but you need an interventional radiology department at the hospital that does that. Sometimes they give the tPA more systemically (goes everywhere) and that increases the risk of bleeding but honestly at this point they should go for it. I have seen tPA save some lives. I have also seen it cause some bad bleeding. But honestly if someone survives a PE they deserve a fighting chance and that is what tPA gives them.

    BIG hugs to you sweetheart.

  • @chickenonsunday your sister is relaying the information to you perfectly. Sounds like you have a wonderful family! These are hard conversations and decisions to make.

They will monitor the PE indirectly by checking on the heart pressure and by checking on the oxygenation. The only way to "see" the PE directly would be to keep CT scanning (400 xrays to the chest) your mom which is inappropriate.

Visualize the right heart as the faucet on a sink that is running fluid all of the time into the sink (the lung) and the drain as the left heart (pumping out the fluid to the body) and you visualize immediately that the drain in the sink is plugged (the PE) then you know immediately the fluid is going to back up into the sink. This is not the faucet (the right heart)'s fault, it is simply a bystander. This is why your mom needs oxygen, because her lungs literally are full of clot and fluid, so the small amount of blood that is in the healthy parts of her lung should meet as much oxygen as possible.
