a cat scratched me.

An outdoor cat I feed wanted to be pet more and dug her nails into my thighs . So now I'm worried about my baby. The cat isn't anyone's cat just a stray the neighborhood feeds. Are my fears unreasonable? What should I do?

Re: a cat scratched me.

  • What exactly are you worried about..
  • Miscarriage, still born. The internet is full of misinformation.
  • It's it turning green and oozing?
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • Yeah I figured . I was being paranoid. But it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks
  • Wash it, put some antibacterial gel on it (Neosporin is what I use). You'll be fine.
  • I haven't seen the show. But I read stuff about someone who got toxoplasmosis and spent their whole pregnancy knowing her baby would die from a cat scratch. It was on an old forum in 2004.
  • Use simple sanitation. Wash it out, put on neosporin, watch for infection. I get scratched by cats every single day and I don't worry about it affecting the baby.

  • If you're really this concerned call your DR.

  • To all the snarky, sarcastic commenter, there's no reason to be rude because she's worried about the health of her baby. I know not every comment is supposed to come off as sarcastic but there are some who are being rude for the sake of being rude. You know who you are.
  • At least she tried to look it up herself first.
  • Wow. Many of you are childish bullies. As an actual physician I can say she isn't overreacting and you are jerks for making her feel that way. Cat bites and even scratches can easily become serious and even life/limb threatening - I've seen it. You should clean the scratches, put antibiotic ointment on twice daily, and keep an eye on them. If things become red, oozy or really warm just go to your doctor or the ED for appropriate antibiotics (augmentin). You will likely be fine, but ding let these women make you feel stupid for being concerned.
