My UO is a tough one today. I think Santa Claus is a crock of shit and always have, even since I was a kid. Who wants a creepy dude coming into your house at night? And from the parents' perspective, who wants some imaginary guy getting all the credit for the gifts that you bought?
DH and I are both total heathens and he was raised Jewish so I'm pretty sure our future kids won't have Santa Claus. I feel guilty and conflicted about this at least once a month even though I can't stand that jolly old motherfucker.
I agree about Santa being scary. We were never really BIG on Santa growing up. Maybe 1 or 2 gifts and our stockings. W/ my kids now, the ONLY thing Santa brings is stockings. Which include one or two small "gifts" and some esstentials (like socks, underwear, etc..) As an adult, my mother still does stockings for us grown folk. It is THE BEST part of christmas. I love getting socks and a nail kit! I has never had to buy one because I know "Santa" will always bring one.
Uh, so I was mad about the leggings being brought up again, but seriously, who has recommendations for some good leggings? I had a pair that I loved from Jockey, but now they are getting worn out. They were great for workout or for casual wear and I don't see those available on their website.
Any good recommendations? I had some from Old Navy but they were not as good as the Jockey.
If you are a size 0/2/4 Target kids leggings are amazing!! The size 14/16 is basically a 2/4, and they are often only $5!!!! Some are in weird little kid patterns that look like pajamas, but they have tons of solid colors too.

PSL are over rated. I think they taste super bitter and would rather have just a normal coffee.
If your PSL's taste burned, it's time to complain. That barista doesn't know their shit.
(Coming from a former SBUX barista)
I always get 1 every year and I swear they taste bitter. To be fair, I am not a HUGE pumpkin fan.
Except for pumpkin pie. I will eat that all day 'er day!
I love almost everything pumpkin, but PSLs are too sweet for my taste. Every fall when they come out, I have to remind myself that I do not like them so that I won't waste my money on a cup full of disappointment.
Aw, you guise.
You can always send it back. I know I'd rather say something and end up with something they enjoy than be pissed with their drink.
Unless you were an asshole. Then you can just take your shitty drink and be sad.
It's not that the drinks are poorly made. I just don't really enjoy sweet coffee drinks like flavored lattes, even when they are made to perfection.
PS: I worked as a barista for 5 years and the bolded makes me smile! )
I love everything about Christmas. My kids will believe in Santa as long as possible. IDGAF.
Once when I taught 2-3 year olds we were singing Rudolph for a Holiday program and one of the kids looked at me and said Ms. Bee, we shouldn't sing songs like this because Santa and Rudolph aren't real, they are pagan, and stupid. Word for word that was what came out of his mouth.
I wear leggins with short shirts so that my DH can see my camel-toe...
Joking aside, I am a pear-shaped gal and leggins don't look nice on me. When I do wear them, I make sure to wear long ass shirts because no one needs to see my hot-pocket.

Sounds like something I would've said about 8ish years ago or more. This also sounds like what his parents would've taught him. Some religions/denominations don't celebrate Christmas.

I feel like the second wedding sentiments are super judgy. I am so happy for you if you never went through the heartbreak of divorce. But for those that do and find the love of their life on the other side of it they may want to celebrate that love. I absolutely don't judge someone wanting to celebrate their love and a second chance at happiness.
For the record I wore a champagne dress and had under 20 people at my second wedding. It was more expensive than my over 100ppl first wedding though.
I agree, I don't get the judginess.
A comedienne (I forget who) said that you should have a modest wedding if it's your first. Do it up on the second one!!
Welp, that's exactly what I did. My first marriage was terrible. I got married because I was edging ever so close to the dreaded 25 years of age and that meant I was OLD. It was worse if I was unmarried and not pregnant. Perish the thought! So, I married the guy I was with because I didn't think I could do any better because I was practically elderly and fat. Sincerely, I did not think anyone else would love me, and this guy loved me enough to make it work.
It didn't work. We were both selfish, his mother didn't like me because I didn't go to their church and he ended up cheating on me. We were married less than a year - he was so lazy we were actually legally separated longer than we were married (because he took forever to even file papers to divorce). For that wedding, I bought a dress on clearance and had a friend do the alterations. I picked a church that was pretty and was the same denomination as me so it'd be cheap. I had less than 50 guests. I had generic vows (the ones everyone says). I had no shower, and I had no honeymoon. I wasted money on a stupid limo. I wore white, but I'd definitely had a dick parked in my boner garage more than once by then.
After that ended I met my (now) husband. I was *super* cautious not to rush things, not to be too forward or to be too selfish. As much as my first husband was an asshole, I learned a lot from that failed relationship. I learned what not to do. We dated for years before getting engaged, and took things slow.
My second wedding was far from what most of you would call lavish, but it was a million times better than my first in every way. More guests, better venue, better everything - and that doesn't necessarily mean dollars. I had a shower (gasp!) and so few people from my family attended either ceremony I doubt anyone gifted me twice - though if that's your hangup I seriously wouldn't have missed you or your gifts (seriously - I'm sure there were people at my wedding that didn't get us a thing and I don't give a fuck).
I did it right the second time because I knew what I wanted. I have a better relationship now. There is no question in my mind that I am loved. My first husband would have robbed me blind of all of the pain meds I take for cancer. My (now) husband has seen me at my best and my worst and I have no doubt we'll be there for each other until the end, whenever that is. You can kiss my ass if you judge me for making a mistake in getting married to the wrong person. My wedding or happiness shouldn't have to suffer because of what anyone else thinks.
Don't say "Oh but I don't mean you Cle-cle...Your situation is different" because it's not. I feel like it's easier to judge when you gloss over the details. Ew gross, a shower. Ew, she's wearing WHITE can you imagine? Gasp! Why is she even having a sit down dinner? If you knew the "why" in each person's situation I bet it wouldn't be so easy for people to judge.
You think my more extravagant second wedding with shower is bad/tacky? I judge your dollar dance.
Not to mention there is more than one reason for a second marriage, it could have been divorce or death. I'm glad people didn't feel that way about my wedding, since my husband has been married before. I think celebrating somebody's love is wonderful, regardless of what number marriage it is.
And I know this wasn't yours but I don't want to make separate post...so, RE: Santa...this UO kind of makes me sad. Growing up, Santa was never about a "scary man" coming into our house, it was about the spirit of Christmas.
My Mom went HAM on Santa presents every year, and still does. She and my dad instilled this love for the spirit of what the Holiday season entails, both religiously and in the general sense of being good people, giving, etc.
I remember the day I found out Santa wasn't "real" and asked my Mom point blank. She was honest with me, but to this day she continues to give "Santa" presents and I remain a believer in Santa and the spirit of what he embodies.
Thank you @CLECyclist. I think everyone needs gentle reminders now and again to try and thing of the whole situation before judging. Myself included. I really enjoy the UO threads because I think it makes us all think about what exactly we're saying.
Well said @kemcc13 I agree. I like to hear what others think and compare to my own previously held ideas. Sometimes I change my mind, sometimes I don't, but at least by putting it out there I get the opportunity to learn and grow. Plusalso laughter is good for the soul.

I did not know that! It makes it better for me if I can connect it to some actual historic figure with an actual documented existence. I guess if we ever have Christmas in our house it will be all historical and pagan-ed up. Or maybe we'll just have St. Nicholas' Day and Hanukkah. Or maybe just Festivus.
Or you could have a holiday armadillo...

i just had a conversation about UGG boots this morning. I can completely understand them at home, or camping. hell even running errands on the weekend etc.. but we have girls who wear them to work during winter. BLARGH! I feel like it looks so tacky and unprofessional.
I don't like movies. They're too long, too graphic/emotional/formulaic etc, and I think they're a waste of time and money.
Maybe you're watching the wrong movies.
I'm open to suggestions.I have ADHD though so any movie longer than an hour and a half is hard for me to sit through. I start out playing 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon in the middle of the movie and before long I'm asking Google about the life span of squirrels. Maybe this is the real reason I don't like them.
You're awesome! I'm not downplaying your ADHD at all but it made me laugh because I have similar problems. Though I can focus most of the time, I get distracted VERY easily. I once told my husband I should learn to count cards and he laughed at me. His response was "two/ clubs, Ace of Spades, three/diamonds... oooo!! Pretty blue dress!" Yeah - that sounds about right. Off to Google the lifespan of squirrels
I just saw a pair of UGG boots in person for the first time yesterday. #confessionthursdaylonghairdontcare
Why, they are the official uniform for female college students where I work! UGGs and yoga pants FTW. At least they stopped wearing the shorty shorts that crotches love to nom.
I kept trying to stick crusty in front of crotches when reading this.

I love Santa. I also love Jesus. I want them both involved in my Christmas celebrations!
Mostly Jesus though.
When we were kids, my little brother wrote a story in school about how when Jesus was born, Santa brought him presents in the manger and that's why we have Christmas. I think Batman was also prominently featured in this interpretation of the nativity.
I've been giggling at this memory since the OP.

Speaking of holidays: Halloween is Halloween. I don't mind cities or neighborhood posting hours because it gives me a timeline (ours are 5:30 to 8:30), and I get if there's a downtown or merchant's trick-or-treat that needs to be on a weekend. But I do not get cities or neighborhoods just deciding that they get to change the date of Halloween. When did that start? I don't want to get all 'when I was a kid' because I get that a lot of things are different and good for reasons (carseat laws for an example) but I just think let's celebrate the day on the day.
Not as much a problem this year, although some people have tried to change TOT to Saturday because there's a homecoming game on Friday this year. Nope.

I actually enjoy a good cup of coffee. Coffee CAN be bitter, but it doesnt have to be. IMO it should be smooth and warm. Im not sure why I get the bitter taste from it, its just that aweful after taste that clings to the back of my throat.
I have heard of trunk or treating, mainly at offices/churches/libraries, sometimes that I've seen/participated it'll be for the Boys & Girl's clubs or low-income kids in neighborhoods where TOT-ing isn't safe to do at night. Or as part of a carnival for the community. I think the base did one last year, I know this year H's office is doing a cube-or-treat.

I'm about to be a hypocrite but hear me out - I totally agree with you here. I think trick or treating should be on a Tuesday if that's where it falls.
However, my UO is that I actually wish we had more holidays like Memorial Day or Labor Day where it's like, "the last Monday" or "the first Monday" of [insert month]. It's so annoying to me when like, the Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday. Can't we just all have a three day weekend and do the fireworks and grill out on a long weekend?

@kemmc13 Hmmm, I think the last time I TOT-ed for real (like dressed up and went out with friends) I was probably 13. I feel like a lot depends on if you're dressed up and into the spirit of it. If it's just a random late-teenager who isn't dressed up or escorting a younger kid (if you're not dressed up but you're taking kids around and you want some candy, I don't think that's an issue), I'd probably side-eye but still give candy. There are a couple of organizations of older kids here who do TOT-ing for canned goods for shelters and soup kitchens, which I think is really cool.

What Are Your Thoughts on Tap Dancing Penguins?
Eta: I loled at the person who said the PSL was too bitter. What do you think coffee is?
UO: I really don't like Starbucks. Independent coffee shops FTW. They are better in every way.
When we were kids, my little brother wrote a story in school about how when Jesus was born, Santa brought him presents in the manger and that's why we have Christmas. I think Batman was also prominently featured in this interpretation of the nativity.
I've been giggling at this memory since the OP.
Not as much a problem this year, although some people have tried to change TOT to Saturday because there's a homecoming game on Friday this year. Nope.

*I have no affiliation with woot. Posting the link simply for the poll. The pole made me think of @DarcyHermione because she was the one that enlightened me about the mini-series Pride and Prejudice with the quintessential Mr. Darcy.
Apparently I do because every summer I see them everywhere. Should I mention I live in Florida, which in my mind makes it even more ridiculous?

...No offense to @LindsRockies and her kickass barista skills, of course.

Curious about my ute?
7. I get the premise of the TWW and WTO threads, but at the same time I keep thinking do we really need a DAILY update on everyone's ute.
8. I love to give gifts, I don't care what number baby or wedding you are having. I don't hold back, gift giving is awesome.
9. Thanksgiving is the best hands down holiday ever.
10. My dad hates pears so much that he has pretended to be allergic to them for years. My mom sneaks them into random baked goods because she thinks it is hilarious.
13. I totally forgot my UO after reading the last 7 pages. There was a lot covered.
